Attaching the straps to the sling bar - general applying information
All straps, positioned from the head to the knees, must be attached correctly (top 4 or 5 upper most straps) on both
sides of the PositioningSling, disposable to the sling bar. The sling bar in combination with the lift needs to be approved
by Handicare for use with the PositioningSling, disposable. It can be a 2-, 4- or 8 point bar.
The bottom straps (usually below the knees) can be attached at the client's discretion. When leaving the bottom straps
disconnected, the caregiver is required to guide the lower extremities. Take care to eliminate as many friction points as
possible
Turning in bed, attaching the sling asymmetrical to the sling bar
If the client is to be positioned in the center of the bed after turning, it is recommended to first reposition the client (see:
Higher up in bed) laterally to one side of the bed and then roll the client towards the center of the bed (1).
To perform the turn, connect the four center-most lift straps on one side of PositioningSling, disposable (side opposite
the direction of the intended roll) to the sling bar (2). If bed rails are not used, a caregiver should be on the side you are
rolling the client toward to ensure the safety of the client. Raise the lift to gently turn the client towards the center of the
bed.
Change of PositioningSling, disposable
When replacing an old PositioningSling, disposable with a new one, start with a lift as previously described. When the
client is lifted clear of the bed, place the new PositioningSling, disposable centered on the bed.
Lower the client back down to the bed and disconnect the used PositioningSling, disposable from the sling bar. Connect
the new PositioningSling, disposable to the sling bar and roll the client onto their side (see: Turning in bed) and roll the
used PositioningSling, disposable behind the client, then roll the client back down onto the bed. Do another turn with
the new PositioningSling, disposable in the opposite direction and pull away the used PositioningSling, disposable from
behind the client, then roll the client back down onto the bed.

Lifting – attaching the sling symmetrical to the sling bar
Attach the straps to the sling bar. To maintain a leveled lifting position, use the same color
loops on the left and right sides of the sling. Make sure to always check that the loops
remain attached to the sling bar during lift or transfer. When the client is not lying in the
middle of the sling, the caregiver may switch to sling loops of different lengths, as long
as there is no tension on the loops. The caregiver should make sure to stretch the sling
loops simultaneously and to check that the client is positioned horizontally.
Higher up in bed
Start raising the lift and move the client higher up in bed.
