3.1 Basic guidelines
505874187-4
Intended use
● The intended use of the FPU exclusively
includes the testing and correcting of the
pre-charge pressure of a hydraulic accu-
mulator.
● The FPU is not suited for continuous use.
● The FPU can be used both with conven-
EN
tional nitrogen bottles (200/300 bar) and
with a pressure boost system (design can
vary, observe manufacturer's instructions).
When using the FPU with a nitrogen bottle
(200/300 bar), a pressure reducing valve
must be used – see Set-up diagram FPU‑1
[Sec. 2]
When using the FPU with a pressure
boost system (design can vary, observe
manufacturer's instructions), it must be
ensured that the max. permissible oper-
ating pressure of the FPU hydraulic accu-
mulator is not exceeded – see Set-up
diagram FPU-2 [Sec. 2]
Obligations of the owner
● The owner is responsible for the FPU
being used as intended.
Qualifications of personnel
● All work with the FPU must only be carried
out by suitably trained staff.
● Incorrect installation or handling can lead
to serious accidents. The relevant
protective measures must be taken (e.g.
for aggressive operating media).

3.2 Safety hazards
18014399015438219-4
Risk of bursting
On no account must any welding,
soldering or mechanical work be
carried out on the FPU. These
types of unauthorised work lead
to a loss of operating permission.
Risk of explosion
No.

Risk of burns
Risk of suffocation
Health hazard
4.
Transport and storage
507086347-4
Transport
The FPU can be transported without special
precautions. Damage is to be avoided.
Storage
The FPU can be stored in any position (orien-
tation). The FPU must be kept in a cool, dry
place, protected from direct sunlight. This can
be in its packaging or in a protective case (if
included with delivery).

Basic guidelines
507135883-4
Prior to each testing procedure, and before
topping up or re-charging with nitrogen, the
hydraulic accumulator must be isolated from
the pressurised system by means of a shut-
off valve and the fluid released.
Removal of the check valve C [II-1] is not
permitted. The valve has a safety function for
the entire FPU-1.
18 / 88
Only nitrogen may be used as a
charging gas. NO other gases
are permitted.
When charging using an inten-
sifier or nitrogen charging system
connected upstream, continuous
operation can lead to unac-
ceptable increases in temper-
ature. Incorporate rest periods
into the charging procedure and
allow the FPU to cool down.
When nitrogen is discharged
from hydraulic accumulators, it is
discharged to the ambient air.
Large quantities of nitrogen in
enclosed areas cause a lack of
oxygen: ventilate areas.
When charging or testing the
hydraulic accumulator, nitrogen
and operating fluid can escape if
the bladder, diaphragm, piston
seal or metal bellows are faulty
(i.e. leaking). Appropriate safety
precautions must be taken.
