Pre-Installation Information
Components
Horn Sound: The horn sound is adjustable from 78 decibels at 10 feet (123 decibels at 1 foot). The horn
is designed to sound away from the injured person.
Horn ON/OFF Switch: The horn can be turned off while the strobe light continues to flash and the water
flows.
Voltage: (AC, 120 volts, 50 or 60 cycle, single phase) The Alarm System is fully grounded and
electrically insulated from water piping for safety. Draws 1/2 amp.
Strobe Light: The strobe intensity is 258,000 maximum effective candela on horizontal axis. Safety
amber-colored glass has dust cover. The strobe is all solid-state components with no moving parts for
maintenance-free operation.
Electrical Connection: The Alarm System features a prewired 6-foot or 12-foot, multiple conductor,
quick-connect waterproof cable for easy connection to the alarm assembly.
NOTE: If you ordered this alarm system with the S19-300 Heat Trace Drench Shower, your alarm
system will differ slightly in configuration. This configuration is intended to mount on the side of the
shower as shown in Figure 5. All functions, electrical connections and testing are identical.
Read this installation manual completely to ensure proper installation, then file it
with the owner or maintenance department. Compliance and conformity to drain

requirements and other local codes and ordinances is the responsibility of the
installer.
Separate parts from packaging and make sure all parts are accounted for before

discarding any packaging material. If any parts are missing, do not begin

installation until you obtain the missing parts.
Flush the water supply lines before beginning installation and after installation is
complete. Test the unit for leaks and adequate water flow. Main water supply to
the eyewash should be "ON" at all times. Provisions shall be made to prevent
unauthorized shutoff. Flushing fluid should be tepid per ANSI Z358.1.
The inspection and testing results of this equipment should be recorded weekly
to verify proper operation. This equipment should be inspected annually to
ensure compliance with ANSI Z358.1.
Workers who may come in contact with potentially hazardous materials should
be trained regarding the placement and proper operation of emergency
equipment per ANSI Z358.1.
