For your protection:
• Read the operating instructions in full before
starting up and follow the safety instructions.
• Keep the operating instructions in a place where
they can be accessed by everyone.
• Ensure that only trained staff work with the device.
• Follow the safety instructions, guidelines, occupa-
tional health and safety and accident prevention
regulations.
• Wear your personal protective equipment in ac-
cordance with the hazard category of the medium
to be processed. There is a risk of projectile parts.
• Set up the device in a spacious area on an even,
stable, clean, non-slip, dry and fireproof surface.
• The mill is to be operated only under the super-
vision of an authorized operator.
• Check the device and accessories beforehand for
damage each time you use them. Do not use dam-
aged components.
• The mill is to be switched off completely using the
rocker switch (Pos. A 13) before opening the door.
• Excess pressure develops with closed collecting
vessels, in particular when using dry ice or liquid
nitrogen. This can lead to ground material escap-
ing upwards out of the funnel.
• Feeding stock residue that remain in the funnel
may not be manually removed during operation
or with unsuitable tools e.g. screwdrivers. They
should only be removed with suitable cleaning
tools when the device is switched off.
• Fingers and/or other articles should not be placed
into the discharge cone (Pos. P 1/ S 1) in order to
clean it during operation. Cleaning is only permit-
ted when the device is switched off and the power
supply plug has been disconnected.
• No highly combustible materials may be cut up.
• After longer grinding cycles the grind-
ing chamber and the crushing tools
may be hot. Let the mill cool off be-
fore cleaning or performing any repair

work.
• Exercise extreme caution when as-
sembling, disassembling or cleaning
the cutting-grinding head, particularly
with regard to the sharp blade edges
on the rotor (Pos. S 20). These parts
are to be handled with extreme care.
Wear protective personal equipment.
• Please observe the relevant safety instructions and
guidelines regarding dust explosions.

Safety instructions

• Always wear suitable protective equipment when
embrittling the mill feed with coolants (liquid ni-
trogen or dry ice), (see laboratory guidelines and
accident prevention regulations applicable to the
laboratory).
• Ensure that pressure does not build up in the grind-
ing chamber (particularly when using coolants).
Attention!
• Process pathogenic materials only in closed vessels
under a suitable extractor hood. Please contact
IKA if you have any questions.
• Do not operate the device in explosive atmos-
pheres, with hazardous substances or under water.
• Only process media that will not react dangerously
to the extra energy produced through processing.
This also applies to any extra energy produced in
other ways, e.g. through light irradiation.
• Safe operation is only guaranteed with the accesso-
ries described in the "Accessories" chapter.
• Always disconnect the plug before fitting accessories.
• The device can only be disconnected from the
mains supply by pulling out the mains plug or the
connector plug.
• The socket for the mains cord must be easily accessible.
• After an interruption to the power supply or a me-
chanical interruption, the device does not start up
again automatically.
For protection of the equipment:
• The device may only be opened by experts.
• The voltage stated on the type plate must corre-
spond to the mains voltage.
• Protect the device and accessories from bumps and
impacts.
• When using liquid nitrogen, the milling
process must only be started when the
liquid nitrogen has fully evaporated.
• Device parts may still be extremely cold
for some time after cooling with liquid
nitrogen and should only be handled
whilst wearing protective equipment.
