9. Adjusting the brakes (Illus. 8 and 9):
Before adjusting the brakes, check with your child whether he or she can
operate the brake lever (A) without any problem. By turning the screw (B), you
can reduce the distance between the brake handle and the handlebar and
adjust it to suit the size of your child's hand. The initial adjustment can be made
to the brake lever (A). If it is not enough, you will be required to retighten the
cable winch. Loosen the counter nut (A1) and unscrew the locking screw (A2)
from the brake lever and fasten the counter nut again. For adjusting the brakes,
loosen the cap nut (C) on the brake arm (D) which keeps the cable winch in place.
When you now press the two brake arms towards the rim with hands, the
distance between the brake shoe and rim should be at least 1 mm and maximum
3 mm. Fasten the cable winch by screwing in the cap nut. Check the brake shoes
seating (E). The entire surface must be pressed on to the rim when the brake is
pressed. If the brake shoes are not positioned on the edge of the rim, you will
need to readjust them by releasing Allen screws (F). Make sure you fasten them
properly after the adjustment. If now a brake arm pulls more or less, correct the
fault through spring setting screw (G) directly on the brake arms. If a brake arm
does not get pushed in adequately on the rim, you will be required to turn the
spring setting screw (G) further inwards. If it presses more than required into the
rim, pull out the spring setting screw a little. Before the fi rst ride, apply the brakes
several times to ensure that all screws have been fastened properly and the brake
works without any problems
Before any use, ensure that all parts are securely connected with each other. For
your own safety, you should replace damaged parts immediately. It is recommended
to employ original parts in any replacement or to be advised concerning this by a
specialist. Right to technical changes reserved.
