Commissioning
4.1
General
The pump / pump unit may be commissioned only by the trained personnel of the operating party or by
members of the Barmag pump service.
Be careful when filling in and draining hot materials hazardous to health in or from the sealing chamber.
When loosening the screw plugs of the sealing chamber or opening the air drain valve (opposite of the
product discharge in case of drum pump) health-endangering or hot liquids may spill out or correspond
ing gases may leak out. Before performing such work, always depressurize the system. Wear appropriate
protective clothing, especially a face shield. Always open the upper screw plug of the sealing chamber
carfefully first in order to drain possibly accumulated gas.
A drum pump with feed screw must not be operated until the pump has been connected to the drum and
the risk of reaching into the screw has been eliminated.
4.2
Preheating
∙
The pump must be started up only when the required operating temperature has been reached and
when being evenly and completely heated.
∙
There are two possibilities to preheat the pump.
- preheating in an oven
- preheating in the installation
∙
In case of first commissioning, residues of silicone oil remain in the pump. In order to avoid the silic
one oil crystallizing out at high temperature, the following temperatures and their respective preheating
times must not be exceeded:
temperature 225 °C:
4.3
Checks
After the proper assembly of the pump in the equipment the following tests must be carried out before
starting-up (shaft of the pump drive not yet mounted):
∙
Check the tightening torques of the pump fastening screws.
∙
Check the ease of pump rotation.
∙
Inspect discharging medium connections with regard to the rotational direction of the pump.
Interchanging the connections may result in damage to the pump and the system.
∙
Inspect the rotational direction of the drive prior to each re-commissioning (for the permissible rota
tional directions, refer to the arrow indicating the rotational direction on the front side of the pump or
pump data sheet). An incorrect rotational direction may result in damage to the pump and the system.
∙
Prior to commissioning, inspect the line connections at pump inlet and outlet for leakage.
4.4
Commissioning of pumps with stuffing box packing
First Start‐up of Stuffing Box Packing
During factory assembly the screws of the stuffing box have been tightened only slightly to be able to
check the ease of pump rotation prior to start‐up.
