Removing/Inserting the Battery
To remove the battery, push in the release buttons
and pull the battery pack away from the tool.
Always remove the battery pack
WARNING
any time the tool is not in use.
To insert the battery, slide the pack into the body
of the tool. Make sure it latches securely into place.
Only use accessories specifically
WARNING
recommended for this tool. Others
may be hazardous.
Installing the Cutting Head
Before using the tool, the cutting head must be
installed.

1. WARNING! Remove battery to avoid starting the tool.
2. Remove the plastic caps on the end of the pole
and end of the cutting head. Ensure that the black
spacer on the pole is still in place.
3. Align the cutting head with the correct orientation
of the set screw. The pull hook should be oriented
at the bottom of the tool.
4. Slide the cutting head onto the pole to the indica-
tor line.
NOTE: The spline may need to be rotated slightly
during assembly.
5. Tighten the T25 set screw.
6. Tighten the T25 clamp screw until the clamp gap
is closed.

Installing the Sprocket Clutch Assembly
There are a series of 3 spring washers that must
be oriented in a specific way for the tool to function
properly.

1. WARNING! Remove battery to avoid starting the tool.
2. Install sprocket washer 1 onto output shaft, ensure
it is seated on the shoulder of the output shaft
3. Install sprocket onto output shaft, ensure it is
seated on sprocket washer 1.
4. Install the sprocket washer 2, ensure it is seated
on the sprocket.
5. Install plastic guide onto sprocket washer 2.
6. Install the 3 spring washers in the correct orienta-
tion, as shown. The plastic guide will help ensure
the spring washers are aligned properly.
7. Fasten the nut to the threads on the end of the
output shaft. Tighten with a calibrated device to
7 ft-lbs.
8. Remove and discard plastic guide.
Replacing/Adjusting the
Saw Chain and Bar
Chain is sharp. Always wear protec-

tive gloves when handling the
chain.
Use Low Kickback Saw Chains - The rakers (depth
gauges) ahead of each cutter can minimize the force
of a kickback reaction by preventing the cutters from
digging in too deeply at the kickback zone. Only
use replacement chain that is equivalent to original
chain or has been certified as low kickback chain
per ANSI B175.1.
As saw chains are sharpened during their useful life,
they lose some of the low kickback qualities and extra
caution should be used.

3. Remove the drive cover by removing the guide
bar nut using the adjustment tool.
