1 Introduction
Read all of this operating manual before and follow it when
using the equipment. The brake disc measurement equip-
ment (BDMI) is a high-precision measuring instrument for
measuring the axial runout (wobble) and the thickness toler-
ance of brake discs (Ø max. 360 mm).
Use and keep the measuring instrument in a dry and clean
environment. Cover the measuring instrument when not in
use. Do not throw or drop the measuring instrument.
The BDMI is fitted with two resting pots of different diameters
(Ø 110 mm, Ø 98 mm, no.s 7+8). Remove the three hexagon
socket screws (no. 10) to take down the upper resting pot (Ø
110 mm, no. 7) when handling smaller brake discs.
Check that the surfaces contacting the brake discs are not
contaminated and undamaged (impact marks). Use a fine
whetstone (granularity > 400) to smooth out minor impact
marks (bumps). When assembling the support pots, check
that the resting surfaces of the two supporting pots are abso-
lutely clean. Attention: There is only one way the two pots will
fit. When putting on the upper pot .check that all three
hexagon socket screws (no. 10) can be screwed in. Just
tighten the screws by hand (Md < 6 Nm) to make the joint.
If necessary, adjust the bearing implement of the support
pots from below the base plate (no. 9) using an AF17mm-
size box spanner. Afterwards, check that the turntable rotates
easily and free of play. Over-adjusting the bearing implement
may damage the bearing.
Periodically check the bearing (no. 2) of the dial gauge re-
ceptacle (no. 3) for ease of movement and freedom from
play. If necessary, uniformly adjust both the bearing points
(grub screws with locknuts).

2 Commissioning
1. After unpacking, clean the BDME and check that the
content is complete and undamaged.
2. Remove the dial gauge (no. 4) from the separate pack-
age. Unscrew the spherical measurement sensor (no. 5).
Insert the dial gauge from the top into the dial gauge re-
ceptacle (no. 3) and carefully tighten it with the knurled
screw (no. 11).
3. Screw in the spherical measurement sensor (no. 5).
4. Align the dial gauge holder (no. 3) vertically.
5. Check the support of the support pots for easy move-
ment and freedom from play.
3 Preparing for Measurement
1. Remove the centring cone (no. 6) and swing the dial
gauge away horizontally in the tripod.
2. Determine the suitable diameter for the support pot or re-
move the upper support pot, as necessary.
3. Check and, if necessary, clean the contact surface of the
pot.
