4 Measuring the axial runout of the BDMI
1. Unscrew the spherical measurement sensor (no. 5).
2. Align the dial gauge holder (no. 3) horizontally.
3. Insert the dial gauge (no. 4) in the dial gauge receptacle
(no. 3) and return the spherical measurement sensor (no.
5) to the dial gauge (no. 4).
4. Carefully release the clamping screws (no. 12). Align the
dial gauge (no. 4) and check that the spherical measure-
ment sensor (no. 5) rests on the contact surface of the
support pot (no.s 7/8). CAUTION! Protect the dial
gauge (no. 4) from damage.
5. Using the adjusting wheel (no. 4a) of the dial gauge (no.
4), turn the dial and set the pointer over the 0 on the dial.
6. Turn the support pot (no. 12) and take a dial gauge (no.
4) reading to know what the radial runout is.
7. NOTE! Check that the reading is not greater than 0.01
mm.
5 Measuring the axial runout of the brake discs
1. Check that the dial gauge is in the dial gauge receptacle,
release the knurled screw, and lower the support pins
(no. 1) underneath the dial gauge all the way down.
2. Align the dial gauge on the brake disc and check that the
spherical measurement sensor of the dial gauge rests
vertically on the brake disc about 10 mm away from the
outer edge and is pretensioned by approx. 5 mm (ap-
prox. 5 pointer revolutions).
3. Tighten the clamping screws (no. 12) on the tripod by
hand.
4. Rotate the brake disc on the centring cone through 360
degrees while reading the gauge (1 scale mark = 1/100
mm).
6 Measuring the thickness tolerance
1. Same as "Measuring the axial runout", point 1
2. Same as "Measuring the axial runout", point 2
3. Same as "Measuring the axial runout", point 3
ATE Operating Manual
4. Check that the dial gauge is in the dial gauge receptacle,
release the knurled screw, and push the support pins
(no. 1) underneath the dial gauge all the way up (tilt the
dial gauge receptacle a little downwards against the
spring pressure). Check that the dial gauge is preten-
sioned by approx. 2 mm (approx. 2 pointer revolutions).
Now use the knurled screw to fasten the support pins.
5. Rotate the brake disc on the centring cone through 360
degrees while reading the gauge (1 scale mark = 1/100
mm).
