information on:

FOREWORD
Failure to follow all instructions on the use of this product and/or failure to wear the respirator system during all times of
exposure may adversely affect the wearer's health, may lead to severe illness or permanent disability and may render any
warranty null and void.
If you have any doubts about the suitability of the product to your job situation, it is recommended that you consult an
occupational hygienist, or call 3M OH&ES Technical Affairs at your local 3M office. See back of this booklet for addresses
and telephone numbers.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
Jupiter™ is a waist mounted air filter unit which when used in conjunction with one of the approved headtops (see reference leaflet)
forms a power assisted filtering device.
The Jupiter™ unit offers a choice of 4hr, 8hr or Intrinsically safe (IS) battery packs, a range of filter options and incorporates an
electronic control unit which provides an audible and visual warning of low battery and/or low airflow into the headtop.
APPROVALS
This product, when used as part of a 3M Approved System has been shown to meet the Basic Safety Requirements under Article 10
and 11B of the European Directive 89/686/EEC and is thus CE marked.
The product was examined at the design stage by: British Standards Institution, 389 Chiswick High Road, London,
England W4 4AL (Notified Body number 0086).
This product has been certified as complying with European EMC Directive 89/336/EEC.
This product (when fitted with the Intrinsically safe IS battery pack 007-00-62P) has been approved for intrinsic safety as complying
with European Directive 94/9/EC by: SIRA Certification Service, UK (Notified Body number 0518).
LIMITATIONS TO USE
Use this respirator system strictly in accordance with all instructions:
• contained in this booklet,
• accompanying other components of the system (e.g. 3M Jupiter™ Reference leaflet, Headtop and Filter User Instructions).
Do not use in concentrations of contaminant above those given in the headtop User Instructions.
Do not use for respiratory protection against unknown atmospheric contaminants or when concentrations of contaminants are
unknown or immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH), or in atmospheres containing less than 19,5% oxygen (3M definition.
Individual countries may apply their own limits on oxygen deficiency. Please seek advice if in doubt).
Only use with the headtops and spares / accessories listed in the Reference leaflet and within the usage conditions given in the
Technical Specification.
Only for use by trained, competent personnel.
Leave the contaminated area immediately if:
a) Any part of the system becomes damaged.
b) Airflow into the headtop decreases or stops.
c) Breathing becomes difficult.
d) Dizziness or other distress occurs.
e) You taste or smell contaminants or an irritation occurs.
Never modify or alter this product, replace parts only with original 3M parts.
When using standard 4 and 8 hr batteries - Do not use in flammable or explosive atmospheres
When using I.S. battery and an appropriate headtop (Please see Jupiter™ Reference leaflet), use is permitted in Intrinsically safe
zones 1 & 2. Do not use in Zone 0 Intrinsic Safety areas.
Materials which may come into contact with the wearers skin are not known to cause allergic reactions to the majority
of individuals.
This product contains no components made from natural rubber latex.

IRL
The Jupiter™ Air Filter unit is marked with IP53.
The Jupiter™ Air Filter unit is marked with
conjunction with I.S. battery 007-00-62P.
I.S. battery is marked to EN12941 and with
4hr and 8hr batteries are marked to EN12941.
PREPARATION FOR USE
Check:
Apparatus is complete, undamaged and correctly assembled, any damaged or defective parts must be replaced before use.
Undertake pre-use checks on headtop assembly as outlined in the appropriate user instruction.
Fit the belt to the Air Filter Unit as outlined in the 022-25-03P user instructions.
Select an approved battery (Please see Jupiter™ Reference leaflet for list of 3M approved batteries) charge as shown in Fig 1 and fit
as shown in Fig 2.
Battery charging
The battery should be charged prior to first use or if unused for more than 5 days.
For charging of the 4 hr, 8hr and I.S. batteries please see Reference leaflet.
The battery must be charged in a safe area.
Calibration
Calibrate the Air Filter Unit before first use and at least monthly thereafter. See Fig 3.
CALIBRATION
ENTERING CALIBRATION MODE
Hold switch button for 3 seconds, second
beep will sound, keep pressed during
calibration.
Display flashes fast during Calibration.
Fan will increase speed.
Release switch when ball is above mark.
(Fig 3).

Filters
Select approved filters (Please see Jupiter™ Reference leaflet for list of 3M approved filters). Fit pre-filters (Fig 4) and then fit
filters as shown in Fig 5.
Air flow check
Before use, undertake air flow check using the air flow indicator tube (white ball). See Fig. 6.
To check for correct functioning of audible warning device please see Fig 7.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Donning
1. Select an approved breathing tube (Please see Jupiter™ Reference leaflet for list of 3M approved breathing tubes) and connect
top end to the headtop assembly.
2. Adjust and buckle the waist belt with the Jupiter™ unit fitted comfortably around your waist and connect the bottom end of the
breathing tube to the outlet of the unit.
3. Adjust the headtop as outlined in the appropriate User Instruction.
4. Switch on the unit, fit the headtop and ensure at least minimum airflow is achieved. (The audible alarm will sound if below
minimum airflow – please see fault finding).
