IMPORTANT
Using a mechanical combination lock
NOTE: Models with a combination lock are shipped with a
screw in the back of the door (Fig. A). This temporary screw
keeps the combination dial and handle from turning and
locking the safe before you are ready to use it. Once your safe
is delivered, remove this screw and throw it away (Fig. B).
After removing the lock out screw, it may be required to
push the bolt button which, in turn, will throw the bolts to a
locked position while the door is open (Fig. C). Proceed to test
your combination. The handle should be all the way UP,
in the horizontal position before attempting to dial
out safe. Your combination lock is now ready to use. You will
find your safe's combination on the sticker on the front of the
owner's manual. Depending upon the model you chose, you
will have either a 3-number or 4-number combination. If you
have an electronic Lock, please refer to page 6 for operating
instructions.
For safes with combination
and key lock
For added security, some models have a dual locking system
(combination lock plus key lock). NOTE: The safe will lock if
key lock cylinder is pressed in with or without key.
To unlock and open
Before dialing your combination, simply insert the key in the
lock and turn until the plunger pops out. Remove key.
To close and lock
You can relock the safe in two ways. With the door closed,
depress the key lock with your finger, or spin the combination
dial one full turn. For greatest security, do both. (Make sure
the door handle is in the horizontal position.)

Changing your
4-number combination
Some Sentry Fire-Safe models allow you to change your
combination. (Applies only to 4-number combination
models; 3-number combination models are NOT
changeable.)
NOTE: You may not select your new combination; it is
determined at random.
NOTE: Changing the combination will void the limited
warranty on the safe's locking mechanism.
How to change your combination
NOTE: You may change your combination as often as you like.
Safes with a 4-number combination have 20 possible
combinations, including the one with which it was
shipped. The combinations are built in at the factory.
It is NOT possible to choose a particular combination
such as your birthday. You must choose from the 20
possible combinations built into your safe. These
instructions will show you how.
1. Refer to the chart, "FINDING YOUR NEW COMBINATION"
on pages 20-21. On the left side of the page, please
write your CURRENT combination under "My Current
Combination."
2. In the bold print columns underneath, circle the
corresponding numbers.
3. Dial your current combination. Push the handle down and
open the safe door.
4. As you follow the next steps, be sure your door handle stays
downward. This will keep the locking bolts inside the door.
(Fig. D)
5. You may now choose the LAST number of your new
combination. You have 19 choices.
A. On the chart, find the number you circled as the LAST
number of your current combination.
B. Look at the row of numbers to the right of your circled
number. From this row, choose the number you want
for the LAST number of your NEW combination.
Circle your choice.
6. On the back of the door, find the flat red button about 3⁄4"
inch (19 mm) in diameter. With your finger or the end of a
pen, press this button and hold it down firmly. (Fig E)
