2 Safety Notes
The microphone preamplifier and the AC / DC adaptor
correspond to all relevant directives of the EU and are
therefore marked with
WARNING The AC / DC adaptor uses dangerous
mains voltage. Inexpert handling or
modification may result in electric
shock. Leave servic ing to authorized
skilled personnel only.
•
The preamplifier and the AC / DC adaptor are suitable
for indoor use only. Pro tect them against dripping
water and splash water, high air humidity and heat
(admissible ambient temperature range 0 – 40 °C).
•
Even if the preamplifier is switched off, the AC /AC
adaptor connected to the mains has a low power
consumption.
•
Do not operate the preamplifier and immediately
disconnect the AC / DC adaptor from the socket:

.
1. if the preamplifier or the AC / DC adaptor is visibly
damaged,
2. if a defect might have occurred after the pre-
amplifier or the AC / DC adaptor was dropped or
suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case, the preamplifier or the AC / DC adaptor
must be repaired by skilled personnel.
•
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth. Do not use
any chemicals or water.
•
No guarantee claims for the preamplifier or the
AC / DC adaptor and no liability for any resulting per-
sonal damage or material damage will be accepted
if the units are used for other purposes than origi-
nally intended, if they are not correctly connected
or operated, or if they are not repaired in an expert
way.
If the preamplifier and the AC / DC adaptor
are to be put out of operation definitively,
dispose of the units in accordance with
local regulations.
Never put batteries in the household waste. Always

3 Applications
The MPA-102 is a microphone preamplifier in low-
noise semiconductor technology. It is designed for use
on stage, in recording studios and for home recording
and multimedia applications. The microphone pream-
plifier has a balanced XLR microphone input and a ser-
vo-balanced XLR line output. In addition, the amplified
microphone signal can be picked off at a stereo line
output or added to a fed-through stereo line signal.
4 Connecting the Microphone Preamplifier
Switch off the microphone preamplifier before making
or changing any connections to other units.
1) The microphone preamplifier is supplied with
power either via the AC / DC adaptor provided or, for
mobile use of the unit, via three 9 V batteries. When
it is supplied with power via the AC / DC adaptor, the
batteries inserted will be disconnected.
– For power supply via the AC / DC adaptor, connect
the adaptor to the jack 24 V ⎓ (9).
– For battery operation, loosen the four screws
at the lower part of the housing and remove it.
Connect the battery poles to the battery snaps
of the unit. Insert the batteries into the support.
