To examine the spark plug

CAUTION: Always use the recommended
spark plug type. Incorrect spark plug type
can cause damage to the product.
Examine the spark plug if the engine is low on
power, is not easy to start or does not operate
correctly at idle speed.
To decrease the risk of unwanted material on the
spark plug electrodes, obey these instructions:
a) Make sure that the idle speed is correctly
adjusted.
b) Make sure that the fuel mixture is correct.
c) Make sure that the air filter is clean.
If the spark plug is dirty, clean it and make sure that
the electrode gap is correct, refer to
DATA on page 22 . (Fig. 56)
Replace the spark plug if it is necessary.
To sharpen grass cutters and grass
blades
1. Sharpen grass cutters and grass blades with a
single-cut flat file.
2. Sharpen all edges of the grass cutters and blades
equally to keep the balance. (Fig. 57)

To do the maintenance on the pole
saw attachment
WARNING: Remove the spark plug before
you do the maintenance on the attachment.
To install or replace the chain
WARNING: When the chain becomes worn
or damaged, replace it with the low kickback
chain. See
Note: Always use gloves when you touch the chain.
1. Disconnect the spark plug cap.
2. Use the wrench to loosen the sprocket cover nut by
turning counterclockwise. (Fig. 66)

3. Remove the sprocket cover nut, washer (B) and
sprocket cover (C). (Fig. 67)
4. Remove the guide bar and saw chain if they are
installed.
5. If you are replacing a chain, remove the old chain
from the guide bar and discard it.
6. Remove all sawdust, dirt and other unwanted
material from the surfaces with a soft brush or a dry
cloth.
7. Do the maintenance on the guide bar. See
maintenance on the guide bar on page 21 .
8. Turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise until the
adjustment pin is at the position shown. (Fig. 68)
9. Install the new chain on the guide bar with the
cutters in the correct direction. Start at the top of the
guide bar and move to the front of the guide bar.

Note: Make sure the bottom of the chain is in the
groove on the guide bar and engaged on the front
sprocket of the guide bar.
10. When the chain is on the guide bar, install them on
the saw and put the chain around the sprocket. Align
the sprocket teeth with the chain.
11. Make sure the adjustment pin is in the adjustment
pin hole of the guide bar. (Fig. 70)
Note: An adjustment pin and screw are used to
adjust the tension of the chain. It is very important
when you assemble the guide bar that the
adjustment pin is engaged in the adjustment pin hole
on the guide bar.
12. Attach the sprocket cover (A), washer (B) and
sprocket cover nut (C). Lightly tighten the nut with
your fingers. (Fig. 71)
13. Adjust the chain tension. See
tension on page 20 .
Note: Examine the chain tension regularly. A chain
that has the correct tension has better performance
and longer life.
To adjust the chain tension
WARNING: Put on the gloves before you
adjust the chain tension. The chain is sharp
and can cause injuries to you.
Note: The chain extends during the operation, specially
when you operate for the first 15 minutes. You must
examine and adjust the chain tension frequently after
you use or refuel the product.
1. Examine the chain and guide bar for any damage.
Replace any part that is damaged.
