ton von einem anderen Verstärker an, den DIP-
Schalter Nr. 3 in die obere Position OFF stellen,
sonst überlagern sich zwei Testtöne!
7) Wird von dem Modul ein Fehler erkannt, schlie-
ßen u. a. die Relaiskontakte (18). An die Kontakte
lässt sich zur Alarmierung ein Signalgeber an-
schließen. Die Belastbarkeit der Relaiskontakte
beträgt 1 A bei max. 120 V~ oder max. 24 V .
Hinweis: Die Relaiskontakte schließen auch,
wenn der Verstärker ausgeschaltet wird.
4.2 Kalibrierung
1) Den Verstärker einschalten und die Lautstärke-
regler LEVEL (2) und (15) auf Null drehen, damit
nur der 20-kHz-Testton an den Lautsprecheraus-
gängen anliegt.
Wird der Eingang SLAVE INPUT (17) verwen-
det, darf während der Kalibrierung an diesem
Eingang kein Signal einer Durchsage und kein
Musiksignal anliegen, sondern eventuell nur ein
20-kHz-Testton von einem anderen Verstärker.
Liegt ein 20-kHz-Testton an, den nächsten
Bedienschritt überspringen und mit dem Schritt 3
fortfahren.
2) An den Kontakten COM und 100 V der An-
schlussklemme SPEAKER OUTPUT (9) die
Spannung des 20-kHz-Testtons messen und mit
dem Trimmregler OSC Level (21) auf 2 V~ ein-
stellen.
3) An den Messpunkten „+ -" (20) des Moduls die
Spannung des 20-kHz-Testtons kontrollieren. Mit
dem Trimmregler Sensitivity (22) 2 V~ einstellen.
4) Nach der Kalibrierung die Regler LEVEL wieder
auf die gewünschte Lautstärke drehen.
3) Connect the 4-pole cable which is tied to the
GB
cable harness at the rear of the amplifier to the
jack CN 601 of the module. The outer pin of the
jack must remain unconnected, see fig. 4.
4) Connect the contact COM of the terminal SPEAK-
ER OUTPUT (9) on the amplifier to the contact
COM of the terminal Line In (19) on the module;
connect the contact 100 V of the SPEAKER
OUTPUT to the contact HOT of Line In.
5) Set the jumper SW 1 on the fault detection
module to the position ON.
6) Set DIP switch No. 2 (12) on the rear side of the
amplifier to the upper position OFF and DIP
switch No. 3 to the lower position ON.
However, if the SLAVE INPUT (17) is used
and a 20 kHz test tone from another amplifier is
already applied here, set DIP switch No. 3 to the
upper position OFF, otherwise two test tones will
be superposed!
7) If the module detects a fault, the relay contacts
(18) will close. The contacts allow connection of a
signal device for alarm triggering. The current
rating of the relay contacts is 1 A at 120 V~ max.
or 24 V
max.
Note: The relay contacts will also close when the
amplifier is switched off.
4.2 Calibration
1) Switch on the amplifier and set the volume con-
trols LEVEL (2) and (15) to zero so that only the
20 kHz test tone is applied to the speaker out-
puts.
If the SLAVE INPUT (17) is used, no signal of
an announcement or no music signal must be
applied to this input while calibrating; only a
20 kHz test tone from another amplifier, if neces-
sary. If a 20 kHz test tone is applied, skip the next
step and proceed with step 3.
2) Measure the voltage of the 20 kHz test tone at the
contacts COM and 100 V of the terminal SPEAK-

5 Aufstellen des Verstärkers
Der Verstärker ist für den Einschub in ein Rack für
Geräte mit einer Breite von 482 mm (19") vorgese-
hen, kann aber auch als Tischgerät verwendet wer-
den. In jedem Fall muss Luft ungehindert durch alle
Lüftungsöffnungen strömen können, damit eine aus-
reichende Kühlung der Endstufe gewährleistet ist.
5.1 Rackeinbau
Für die Rackmontage werden 3 HE (3 Höheneinhei-
ten = 133 mm) benötigt. Damit das Rack nicht kopf-
lastig wird, muss der Verstärker im unteren Bereich
des Racks eingeschoben werden. Für eine sichere
Befestigung reicht die Frontplatte allein nicht aus.
Zusätzlich müssen Seitenschienen oder eine Boden-
platte das Gerät halten.
Die vom Verstärker erwärmte Luft muss aus dem
Rack austreten können. Anderenfalls kommt es im
Rack zu einem Hitzestau, wodurch nicht nur der Ver-
stärker, sondern auch andere Geräte im Rack beschä-
digt werden können. Bei unzureichendem Wärmeab-
fluss in das Rack eine Lüftereinheit einsetzen.
6 Verstärker anschließen
Alle Anschlüsse sollten nur durch Fachpersonal und
unbedingt bei ausgeschaltetem Verstärker vorge-
nommen werden!
Hinweis: Alle grünen Anschlussleisten lassen
sich zu besseren Handhabung beim Festschrauben
der Anschlussleitungen von ihren Steckverbindun-
gen abziehen.
6.1 Lautsprecher
Die 100-V-Lautsprecher mit der Anschlussleiste
SPEAKER OUTPUT (9) verbinden: die Minuspole
mit dem Kontakt COM und die Pluspole mit dem Kon-
takt 100 V. Hierbei darf eine Gesamtbelastung von
120 W
durch die Lautsprecher nicht überschritten
RMS
werden, sonst wird der Verstärker beschädigt.

3) Check the voltage of the 20 kHz test tone at the
measuring points "+ -" (20) of the module. Adjust
2 V~ with the trimming control Sensitivity (22).
4) After calibrating, set the controls LEVEL to the
desired volume again.
5 Setting up the Amplifier
The amplifier is provided for installation into a rack
for units with a width of 482 mm (19"), but it can also
be used as a table top unit. In any case, make sure
that air will circulate freely through all vents to pro-
vide a sufficient cooling of the power amplifier.
5.1 Rack installation
For rack installation, 3 RS (3 rack spaces = 133 mm)
are required. To prevent the rack from becoming
top-heavy, insert the amplifier into the lower section
of the rack. The front panel alone is not sufficient for
fixing it safely. In addition, lateral rails or a bottom
plate must secure the unit.
The air heated by the amplifier must be able to
leave the rack, otherwise this will result in heat accu-
mulation within the rack which may not only damage
the amplifier but also other units in the rack. In case
of insufficient heat dissipation, install a ventilation
unit into the rack.
6 Connecting the Amplifier
Any connection should only be made by skilled per-
sonnel; always switch off the amplifier before
connecting!
Note: To facilitate handling when screwing on the
connection cables, all green terminal strips can be
disconnected from their plug-in connections.
Um die Verstärkerleistung zu verdoppeln oder zu
vervierfachen, lassen sich zwei bzw. vier PA-3120 in
Serie schalten, siehe Abb. 5 und 6. Dabei jeweils alle
Eingänge PGM INPUT (11) parallel schalten, alle
Eingänge PRIORITY INPUT (16) und alle Steuerein-
gänge PRI CTL (14). Damit die Verstärker unterein-
ander gleich belastet werden, die Lautstärkeregler
LEVEL (2) auf den Frontseiten in die gleiche Position
stellen. Die Lautstärkeregler LEVEL (15) auf den
Rückseiten ebenfalls in die gleiche Position stellen.
6.2 Line-Signaleingänge
Für Durchsagen und Musikwiedergabe wird ein
ELA-Vorverstärker benötigt (z. B. PA-1410MX von
MONACOR), an den Mikrofone und Audiogeräte
(z. B. CD-Spieler, Radiogerät) angeschlossen wer-
den können. Den Ausgang des Vorverstärkers mit
dem Eingang PGM INPUT (11) verbinden.
Für Notfalldurchsagen oder andere wichtige
Durchsagen ist der PA-3120 mit dem Eingang PRI-
ORITY INPUT (16) ausgestattet. Sobald ein mit den
Klemmen PRI CTL (14) verbundener Vorrangschal-
ter oder verbundenes Relais geschlossen wird,
schaltet der Verstärker vom Eingang PGM INPUT
auf den Eingang PRIORITY INPUT um und es ist
nur die Notfalldurchsage zu hören. Die Lautstärke
für Notfalldurchsagen wird separat mit dem Regler
LEVEL (15) auf der Rückseite eingestellt.
6.3 100-V-Eingang
Alternativ zu den Line-Signaleingängen (11) und (16)
kann der 100-V-Eingang SLAVE INPUT (17) verwen-
det werden, um z. B. bei einer bestehenden ELA-An-
lage zusätzliche Leistung für weitere Lautsprecher zu
erhalten. Die Klemmen SLAVE INPUT an die 100-V-
Lautsprecherleitung der ELA-Anlage anschließen.
Hinweis: Die Regler LEVEL (2) und (15) beein-
flussen nicht die Lautstärke des Signals, das am
Eingang SLAVE INPUT anliegt. Die Signallautstärke
an dem Verstärker einstellen, von dem das 100-V-
Signal auf den PA-3120 gegeben wird.
6.1 Speakers
Connect the 100 V speakers to the terminal strip
SPEAKER OUTPUT (9): connect the negative poles
to the contact COM and the positive poles to the
contact 100 V. The total load by the speakers must
not exceed 120 W
, otherwise the amplifier will be

damaged.
To double or quadruple the amplifier power,
connect two or four PA-3120 units in series, see figs.
5 and 6. Respectively connect in parallel all inputs
PGM INPUT (11), all inputs PRIORITY INPUT (16),
and all control inputs PRI CTL (14). To ensure that
the load is uniformly distributed on the amplifiers, set
the volume controls LEVEL (2) on the front panels to
the same position. Set the volume controls LEVEL
(15) on the rear sides also to the same position.
6.2 Line signal inputs
For announcements and music reproduction, a PA
preamplifier is required (e. g. PA-1410MX from
MONACOR) which allows to connect microphones
and audio units (e. g. CD player, radio set). Connect
the output of the preamplifier to the PGM INPUT (11).
For emergency announcements or other impor-
tant announcements, the PA-3120 is equipped with
the PRIORITY INPUT (16). As soon as a priority
switch or a relay connected to the terminals PRI CTL
(14) is closed, the amplifier will switch over from the
PGM INPUT to the PRIORITY INPUT and only the
emergency announcement will be audible. The
volume for emergency announcements is separately
adjusted with the control LEVEL (15) on the rear side.
6.3 100 V input
As an alternative to the line signal inputs (11) and
(16), the 100 V SLAVE INPUT (17) can be used,
e. g. to provide additional power for further speakers
in case of an existing PA system. Connect the termi-
nals SLAVE INPUT to the 100 V speaker cable of
the PA system.
