5. FUNCTION AND OPERATION

Before the first switch-on

Before using the mains cable to connect the instrument to a 230 V socket, please carry
out the following checks and procedures:
Is the instrument voltage the same as the actual mains voltage?
Insert the mains cable in the connection provided for it.

after it has been switched on. This can take up to 2 minutes. During this
period the right- hand yellow LED (filter saturated with hydrocarbons)
lights up in addition to the two green LEDs. After the system check has
been completed the yellow LED goes out and the instrument remains in its
normal working condition.

Using the instrument

Functions, display and operation:
The recirculation air filter system for hazardous substances is controlled by a micropro-
cessor in order to be able to react to a variety of conditions which depend on the safety
cabinet working conditions. The filter attachment for hazardous substances reacts to
coarse particulate contamination (dust, etc.) and strong contamination of the exhaust
air with hydrocarbon vapours and gases. Saturation warnings are given by LEDs.
Filtering takes place in the rear part of the recirculation air filter system for hazardous sub-
stances through the tandem active charcoal filter which is filled with special active char-
coal. An exhaust fan is used to completely remove any vapours and gases released inside
the safety cabinet as a result of leaks, etc. from the stored containers; these are absorbed
by the active charcoal. Safe and fault-free operation is continuously monitored.
Visualisation of the filter condition determined by the microprocessor control is via LEDs. The
LED displays on both sides (green/yellow/red) indicate the current condition of the filter:
Left-hand display: airflow monitoring for particles (e.g. dust)
Green LED lights up:
Yellow LED lights up:
Red LED lights up:
Right-hand display: airflow monitoring for hydrocarbon vapours and gases
Green LED lights up:
Normal operation, filter uncontaminated.
Filter contaminated by particles (e.g. dust), the fan speed
is increased automatically and the filter must be replaced
within 14 days.
Filter must be replaced immediately.
Normal operation, filter uncontaminated.
