Safety precautions
This symbol
words "Danger" or "Warning" indicates the risk level deriving from fail-
ure to observe the prescribed safety precautions:
DANGER
Warns that failure to observe the pre
risk of
cautions involves a risk of electric
electric shock shock.
DANGER
Warns that failure to observe the pre-
cautions involves a risk of damage to
persons and/or things.
WARNING
Warns that failure to observe the precau-
tions involves the risk of damaging the
pum and/or the plant.
1. GENERAL INFORMATION
Please observe the following instructions to achieve the
best pump performance possible and a trouble free insta-
llation.
The Ninfa series of pumps are vertical multistage units
having more than one impeller assembled in-line. The same
flow passes through each impeller but the pressure increa-
ses each time, i.e. more impellers, more pressure. The motor,
enclosed inside the pump casing is cooled by the discharge
water.
These pumps have been designed to operate with clean water,
free of particles in suspension, with a maximum temperature
of 35 degrees Centigrade.
WARNING: correct pump operation is assured by fol-
lowing the instructions on installation and use, and
the electric connection drawings.
DANGER: failure to adhere to the instructions can
result in premature failure of the pump and voiding of
the warranty.
The lubricating oil in the motor is non toxic. In the
case of accidental discharge it will not affect the
colour or smell of the water and has no detrimental
health effects.
2. INSTALLATION
2.1. - Fixing
The pump should be suspended by a rope or chain above the
bottom of the well or tank. Care should be taken to ensure that
the pump is far enough away from the walls so as not to restrict
movement of the float switch.
Never suspend the pump by its electric cable or discharge pipe.
On the automatic version, to vary the required water levels, it is
possible to adjust the height of the floating level switch in rela-
tion to the pump by pulling the cable through its securing
clamp. Free movement must be guaranteed for correct opera-
tion of the float switch.
Maximum immersion depth for the pump is 8 meters.
together with one of the following
2.2 - Assembly of discharge pipes
Recommended discharge pipe size is 1". Smaller diameter
pipe will result in a loss of working head.
All pipework must be self supporting and not bear weight onto
the pump.
It is recommended to install a check valve in the discharge
pipework.
2.3 - Electrical connection
DANGER, risk of electric shock. Electrical installa-
tion must be arranged with an effective earth con-
nection and comply with the prevailing national reg-
ulations.
Electrical connection will be made by connecting the
supply plug to a current outlet with corresponding
earth contacts.
System protection will comprise of a high sensitivity
differential switch (I
The motor is fitted with a thermal cut-out protecting
the pump if overloading occurs.
2.4 - Pre-start checks
WARNING: ensure that the voltage and frequency of
the supply correspond to the values indicated on the
features label.
Ensure that the pump is completely submerged.
THE PUMP MUST NEVER BE DRY RUN.
3. OPERATION
Ensure all valves in the pipework are open.
Connect power supply. If the floating level switch is in the upper
position the pump will start. There will be a delay before water
appears at the end of the discharge pipe.
If the pump fails to operate refer to the possible faults, causes
and solutions list for assistance.
4. MAINTENANCE
For correct maintenance, please follow these instructions:
DANGER, risk of electric shock. Disconnect the
pump from the power supply before handling.
If the pump is not to be operated for a long period, it
is recommended that it is removed from the water,
cleaned and kept in a dry, well ventilated environ-
ment.
ATTENTION: In the event of faults or damage occu-
rring to the pump or its power supply cable, repairs
should only be carried out by an authorised service
agent.
Under normal conditions these pumps are mainte-
nance free.
When the pump is eventually disposed, please note
that it contains no toxic or polluting material. Main
components are identified to allow selective disposal.
