6 | How to use

• Always pack your roll bag with the weight evenly distributed – heavy objects must be placed in the
middle of the roll bag. Do not transport very heavy items in the roll bag – the maximum load is 5 kg
and must not be exceeded.
• Make sure that objects cannot shift in the roll bag. In fact, you should ensure that, once packed,
the roll bag is sufficiently stiff to allow it to be securely fastened to your motorbike.
• Do not use the roll bag for transporting pointed or sharp-edged objects or any other object that
could cause injury to yourself or others.
• Use suitable lashing straps from the Louis range for securing the roll bag. When securing the roll
bag with the lashing straps, choose a sufficiently wide surface, e.g. the pillion seat. Take care with
top box racks! Many of these racks are too small and not strong enough (always follow the rack
manufacturer's instructions). We recommend securing the lashing straps to the motorbike frame or
other sufficiently strong components. Moving parts, such as shock absorbers or the swing arm, and
components that heat up, e.g. the exhaust pipe, must not be used for securing the lashing straps.
• If the roll bag comes with a mounting plate, the first step is to secure the mounting plate to a
sufficiently wide surface, e.g. the motorbike seat, or a sufficiently wide luggage rack using the
lashing straps provided. Then the roll bag is attached to the plate with four click buckles. Never
secure the lashing straps to moving parts (e.g. the swing arm or rear wheel) or parts that heat up
(e.g. the exhaust or engine). When the roll bag is removed, the mounting plate can remain on the
motorbike.
• Before setting off, and then at least every 200 km, check that all the closures of the roll bag
are secure and the roll bag itself is firmly fastened to the vehicle. If necessary, choose different
securing points.
• Make sure that the roll bag cannot come open or become detached from the vehicle while it
is moving (it must not be able to catch in the wheel spokes or the links of the drive chain; the
clearance between bag and exhaust must be at least 8 cm when the motorbike's suspension is
compressed). Also ensure that the roll bag does not obstruct any of your lights or turn signals.
• Textile roll bags are pre-treated to make them water-repellent, but we recommend using waterproof
covers from the Louis range for both textile and leather (including faux leather) roll bags when
riding in the rain. You should protect any sensitive items (e.g. electronic devices) additionally
against moisture with waterproof bags from the Louis range or plastic bags.
• PVC roll bags have waterproof welded seams. The illustrations (Fig. 1 and 2) show how to use the
roll-down closure and labyrinth zipper of these roll bags correctly. In addition, we recommend a
suitable rain cover from the Louis range for protection against moisture.
• Roll bags can affect the handling of the vehicle and impair the safety of the rider, so you must not
exceed 120 km/h (approx. 75 mph). Adapt your riding style (anticipation of braking etc.) to the
changes caused by the roll bag.
• Your lights and license plate must never be obstructed for following traffic by the roll bag or its
securings!
