Factory set knife clearances are:
1.
Multicutter/granulator model F are set to cut film 0.025 mm (0.001 in) thick and uni-
formly score film 0.013 mm (0.0005 in) thick.
2.
Multicutter/granulator model FS are set to cut film 0.013 mm (0.0005 in) thick and
uniformly score film 0.0064 mm (0.00025 in) thick.
"Scored" film is creased (not cut), verifying no knife-to-knife contact.
Knife Material
The Multicutter or granulator is available in CPM-10 V or tungsten carbide.
Resharpening Theory
Worn or damaged knives must always be resharpened before adjusting cutting clearances.
Adjustment of worn knives will result in knife damage.
The resharpening procedure entails surface grinding all three or seven cutter knives and
cylindrically (spin) grinding the two or six rotor knives.
Cutting clearances below 0.08 mm (0.003 in) can only be achieved by spin grinding the
rotor knives while they are fixed to the rotor. Cutting clearances above 0.08 mm(0.003 in)
can be achieved by spin grinding outside the cutter on a spare rotor or using "pre-ground"
rotor knives.
Setting clearances with unsharpened rotor knives is not recommended.
Cutter Disassembly
Important: Fix cutter or granulator to workbench or other stable work area during mainte-
nance. Wear gloves whenever working with cutter/granulator or handling knives.
Hood Removal
Remove cutter/granulator hood or cover (item 2, figure 9) by removing four brass machine
screws and four disc springs. Lift hood carefully off the two dowel pins and place upside
down.
Bed knife Removal
Remove three button head cap screws (item 10) with 5.5 mm (7/32'') hex key. Remove co-
ver plate (item 5). Remove two flat head cap screws (item 9) with 5.5 mm (7/32'') hex key.
Remove bed knife (item 4).
