Clearances below 0.075 mm (0.003 in)
Adjustment below 0.075 mm (0.003 in) requires clearance checks with various films
0.0064-0.05 mm (1/4 to 2-mil) and recommended use of knife adjustment gages
(part #121 116 253), which gives readings of knife movement in 0.0025 mm (0.0001
in) in gradations. Refer to FIG. 8 for proper gage set-up:

Tips on fine adjustments:
*
"Zero" gages after each satisfactory clearance check, giving an easy reference
point for next adjustment.
*
Gages reveal that moving one side of knife in results in a slight retraction on other
side. Compensate for this by advancing knife in small steps, alternating screws.
*
When bed knife retaining screws are tightened, the knife can move slightly in the
direction where the adjustment screw thread presses on the adjustment block.
To eliminate this, after an adjustment, reverse the screw rotation until screw
releases load on the block (1/2 to 3/4 turn) but does not reverse knife travel.
Cover placement
Clean mating surfaces of hood (item 2) and base (item 1).
Place cover on base, locating cover onto two 8 mm (1/4'') dowel pins. Surfaces must come
in full contact, without "rocking".
Fasten with four brass machine screws and disc springs.
To avoid cutter distortion and rotor "rub", only assemble cover and base with same serial
number.
Serial number on base appears on front face, to left of adjustment pads (item 7).
