FITTING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Remove the floor mat from the trunk floor. Remove the spare tire.
Remove the plastic bumper piece from the rear bumper. Remove the
steel interior work by means of the loosening of the four nuts from the
vehicle.
For fitting the towbar to the diesel versions 15(D) and 15 (DT), the
following three parts must be fitted: Protective shield on catalyst
(no. 855722/90412023). Central exhaust protection shield
(no.852790/90412024). Rearmost exhaust protection shield (no.
852789/90411155).
2. Make the place where the holes B and C are to be drilled accessible in
the trunk floor by folding away the upholstery on both sides. Then mark
off the places where the holes B and C will be drilled by making dents
in the floor. Drill the holes B and C 11mm only through the trunk floor.
Place the back plate D in the trunk. The holes B and C and the back-
plate D must correspond with the just-drilled holes. At the location of the
drilled holes B and C in the floor are located the underlying c23mm
holes in the chassis.
3. Remove at the points where the backplates F are located the bitumen
layer from the chassis beams. Be careful in the area of the plastic tank-
filling pipe. Place at the points B the M10x80 bolts and at point C the
M10x90 bolt through the holes in the backplates E and F. Slide the
spacer bushes K and L over the thread ends of the just-placed bolts.
Consult sketch for the correct lengths. Place the backplates E and F
and then slide the spacer bushes at the 23mm holes into the chassis.

Press the bolts via the floor through the holes in the backplate D. Fasten
all of this using four self-locking nuts 10 including ø25x10.5x4mm flat
washers.
4. Drill the holes A 11mm through the rear wall. The place where the holes
are to be drilled are marked by dents. Place the ball part against the
outside of the cover panel and fasten at that point four bolts M10x30
including flat washers and nuts. Tighten all bolts and nuts as per the
table. Saw out the part of the metal inner lining where there is a pre-
pressed part marked off.
5 The models >'97 (see illustration 1) have a pre-formed hole in the mid-
dle of the plastic bumper part. Drill a hole with a diameter of 63 mm in
the middle of this hole. For models '97> (illustration 2), the template
should be placed on the outside of the bumper in accordance with illu-
stration 3. Then, drill the indicated hole (diameter 63 mm). Replace all
that was removed and replace the upholstery . Attach the socket plate
with a clamp and one M8x30 bolt including one self-locking nut. All
other bolts are self-locking.
NOTE:
* Remove the insulating material from the contact area of the fitting points.
* All bolts are quality 8.8 - nuts 8. or when mentioned in fitting instructions
10.9 / 10.
* Don't forget the spring- and plain washers.
* Consult your dealer for the maximum tolerated pull weight and ball
hitch pressure of your vehicle.
* It is recommendable to retighten all fixing bolts and nuts after the towbar
has been in use for some 1000 km/600 miles.
Torque settings for nuts and bolts (8.8):
