REFUELING
This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline with an
octane rating of 86 or higher (a research octane rating 91 or higher).
Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine stopped. If the engine
has been running, allow it to cool first. Never refuel the engine inside a
building where gasoline fumes may reach flames or sparks.
You may use regular unleaded gasoline containing no more than 10%
ethanol (E10) or 5% methanol by volume. In addition, methanol must
contain cosolvents and corrosion inhibitors. Use of fuels with content
of ethanol or methanol greater than shown above may cause starting
and/or performance problems. It may also damage metal, rubber, and
plastic parts of the fuel system. Engine damage or performance
problems that result from using a fuel with percentages of ethanol or
methanol greater than shown above are not covered by warranty.
If your equipment will be used on an infrequent or intermittent basis,
please refer to the fuel section of the STORAGE chapter (page 11) for
additional information regarding fuel deterioration.
WARNING
Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive.
You can be burned or seriously injured when handling fuel.
• Stop the engine and keep heat, sparks, and flame away.
• Handle fuel only outdoors.
• Wipe up spills immediately.
Never use stale or contaminated gasoline or an oil/gasoline mixture.
Avoid getting dirt or water in the fuel tank.
1. To refuel, remove the fuel tank cap and fill the tank with gasoline to
the shoulder of the filler neck [1]. Refuel carefully to avoid spilling
fuel. Do not overfill.
2. After refueling, tighten the fuel tank cap securely.
Spilled fuel is not only a fire hazard, it caused environmental damage.
Wipe up spills immediately.
Move the snowthrower at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from the
fueling source and site before starting the engine.
NOTICE
Fuel can damage paint and plastic. Be careful not to spill fuel when
filling your fuel tank. Damage caused by spilled fuel is not covered
under warranty.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE

Oil Level Check
Check the engine oil level with the
snowthrower stopped and in a level
position.
1. Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick
and wipe it clean.
2. Insert and remove the dipstick
without screwing it into the filler
neck.
3. If the level is low [1], fill to the edge
of the oil filler hole [2] with the
recommended oil (page 9).
4. Reinstall the oil filler cap/dipstick.
NOTICE
Running the engine with a low oil level can cause engine damage.
Engine Oil Change
Drain the oil while the
engine is still warm to
assure rapid and
complete draining.
1. Place the
snowthrower on a
level surface.
2. Place a suitable
container below the
drain bolt to catch
the used oil, then
remove the oil filler
cap/dipstick [1] and
the drain plug [2] and washer.
3. Allow the used oil to drain completely, then reinstall the drain plug,
and tighten it securely.
NOTICE
Improper disposal of engine oil can be harmful to the environment.
If you change your own oil, please dispose of used motor oil
properly. Put it in a sealed container and take it to a recycling
center. Do not throw it in the trash, pour it on the ground, or pour it
down a drain.
4. With the engine in a level position, fill to the outer edge of the oil
filler hole with the recommended oil (page 9).
NOTICE
Running the engine with a low oil level can cause engine damage.
5. Screw in the oil filler cap/dipstick securely.
