Unpacking Your Tool

• Carefully unpack and inspect your tool. Fully familiarise yourself with all its features and functions
• Ensure that all parts of the tool are present and in good condition. If any parts are missing or damaged,
have such parts replaced before attempting to use this tool

Before Use

WARNING: Ensure the tool is disconnected from the power supply before attaching or changing any
accessories, or making any adjustments.
Dust Extraction
WARNING: Always connect the router to a suitable vacuum cleaner or workshop dust extraction system if
the router dust contains harmful substances, such as particles from old paint, varnish, surface coatings etc.
Always dispose of harmful dust according to laws and regulations.
WARNING: Take special care to guard against harmful and toxic dusts when routing lead-based painted
surfaces, woods and metals, particularly if you are unsure about the exact substances involved. All persons
entering the work area must wear a mask specially designed for protection against the toxic dust and fumes
involved. Children and pregnant women MUST NOT enter the work area. DO NOT eat, drink or smoke in the
work area.
IMPORTANT: It is essential to take proper measures to prevent dust entering the motor and other internal
mechanisms of this tool. Failure to do so may seriously reduce the life and performance of this router.
This can be done by connecting the Dust Extraction Connector (23) to the router and connecting a suitable
dust extraction system.
Connecting the Dust Extraction Connector
1. If the router is plunged raise the router (see 'Adjusting the plunge depth')
2. Lay the router on its side
3. Remove the three Screws (44) from the Dust Extraction Connector
4. Position the Dust Extraction Connector on the tool (Image A)
5. Connect the Dust Extraction Connector by inserting the Screws through the Base Plate (14) and screwing
into the Dust Extraction Connector (Image B)
Note: If using the Guide Bush Plate (43), this will need to be attached in between the Dust Extraction
Connector and the Base Plate
Installing a Collet
• The Router is supplied with three different Collets (25), 1/2", 1/4" and 8mm.
• To install one of the Collets:
1. If the router is plunged raise the router (see 'Adjusting the plunge depth')
2. Screw the Collet onto the Spindle by hand (Image C)
Note: Do not tighten fully as this will close the Collet preventing attachment of a router bit and can bend and
damage the Collet.
IMPORTANT: ALWAYS use the correct sized Collet for the router bit
Installing a router bit
WARNING: Wear protective gloves when inserting and removing router bits as the bits have sharp edges.
• To install a router bit:
1. Slacken the Collet using the Collet Spanner (27) (Image D)
2. Insert the router bit into the Collet, ensuring that at least 20mm, or half of the shaft (whichever is greater) is
inserted into the Collet
3. The Collet can then be tightened using the Collet Spanner
IMPORTANT: DO NOT over tighten the Collet as this may damage the Collet or internal mechanism of the tool.
Fitting the Parallel Guide
• When grooving or chamfering, use of the Parallel Guide (30) will help to ensure that accurate cuts are made
1. Configure the Parallel Guide as shown (Image E)
2. Insert the Guide Rods (31) into the Guide Rod Slots (17 & 24) on the required side. Fit the Guide Rod
Indentations (32) under the Guide Rod Locking Knobs (16 & 18) to ensure a secure fitting in the router base
3. Loosen the Guide Block Rod Locking Knobs (28) and Guide Rod Locking Knobs (29) and slide the Parallel
Guide to the approximate required position relative to the cutter (measure if necessary) and re-tighten the
Guide Block Rod Locking Knobs (28)
4. Use the Guide Micro-Adjuster Knob (35) and Guide Indicator (34) to make small adjustments (Image F).
Each graduation equals approximately 0.1mm. Once set re-tighten the Guide Rod Locking Knobs (29)
5. Make the final measurement from the centre of the cutter to the edge of the Parallel Guide (30)
6. When making the cut, keep the vertical edge of the Parallel Guide held against the edge of the workpiece
(Fig. I)
Fitting the Circle Guide
• The Circle Guide (40) allows accurate circles and arcs to be cut
1. Position a Guide Rod (31) into the rear right-hand Guide Rod Slot (24)
2. Fit the Circle Guide Rod Mounting (42) onto the end of the Guide Rod (Image G)
3. Adjust the Guide Rod to the required length and tighten the Guide Rod Locking Knob (18)
4. Position the screw and Circle Guide Wing Nut (41) on the Circle Guide screw as required depending on how
you will anchor the Circle Guide. The wing nut may be used to create the required height to the workpiece
or secure the Circle Guide to the workpiece when placed underneath the workpiece at the end of the thread
5. Ensure the Circle Guide assembly is held securely on the Guide Rod by tightening the screw head or wing
nut so the Circle Guide assembly is compressed and tight on the Guide Rod
6. Adjust the Guide Rod position in the guide rod mountings to the required length (radius) from anchor
position to centre of router bit cutter
7. Ensure the anchor point is secure and with both hands securely holding the router, make the required arc
cut (Fig. II)
IMPORTANT: Note the cutting direction indicated in Fig. II. It is important the cut is made in a clockwise motion
around the pivot point as shown.
Fitting the Roller Guide
• The Roller Guide (37) attaches to the Guide Block (33). It enables the router to follow the shape of the wood
(Fig. III)
1. Attach the Roller Guide as shown (Image H) by removing the two screws (Image I) and fitting the Roller
Guide assembly.
2. Loosen the Guide Block Rod Locking Knobs (28) and Guide Rod Locking Knobs (29) and slide the Roller
Guide assembly to the approximate required position relative to the cutter (measure if necessary) and
re-tighten the Guide Locking Knobs (29) (Image J)
3. In this configuration the Guide Micro-Adjuster Knob (35) can be used to make fine adjustments to the
length. Loosen the Guide Block Rod Locking Knobs (28) and using the Guide Micro-Adjuster Knob (35) and
Guide Indicator (34), make small adjustments. Each graduation equals approximately 0.1mm. Once set
re-tighten the Guide Block Rod Locking Knobs (28)
4. Adjust the Roller Guide height using the Roller Guide Height Adjuster Knob (39)
Note: Alternatively, just the Guide Block with Roller Guide attached can be connected using two Guide Rods
only. This is a lighter configuration which will eliminate the option for fine adjustment using the Guide
Micro-Adjuster Knob (Image K)
Note: Ensure the Roller Guide wheel is kept clean and rotates freely. Lubricate with a suitable PTFE spray if
necessary.
Using the Guide Bush Plate
A Guide Bush can be used when template/jig cutting. A 30mm Guide Bush Plate is provided (30mm is
commonly used for kitchen jigs).
A template or jig can be clamped on top of a workpiece so that the router can create exact size shapes,
patterns or writing in a workpiece surface, such as signs (Fig. IV). It can also create holes for devices that are
mounted in wood such as basins, taps etc
• Fit the Guide Bush Plate (43) into the recess in the Base Plate (14) of the router with the raised circular
edge facing away from the router and secure with the Guide Bush Screws (44) (Image L)
Note: Ensure the central opening diameter of the Guide Bush Plate is correct for the required router cutter
fitted to the tool.
Note: Always refit the Guide Bush Screws after removing the Guide Bush Plate to secure the dust extraction
assembly.
