CONNECTING DS 313/WT

The DS 313/WT speaker is designed for use with constant voltage audio lines at 50 V or 100 V, and is
factory set for connecting directly to 100V audio lines. To configure it for 50 V, proceed as indicated in
the section SELECTING THE 50 V INPUT VOLTAGE.
The connections with the audio line are made using terminal strip M (Fig. 7, page 34) that heads the
RED and BLACK input conductors.
VERY IMPORTANT
To prevent damaging the speaker, before connecting it make sure that the voltage of the
audio line corresponds to the input voltage of the speaker (100 V standard).
1. Using terminal strip M (Fig. 8, page 34), connect the RED conductor of the speaker to the positive con-
ductor (+) of the audio line.
2. Using terminal strip M, connect the BLACK conductor of the speaker to the negative conductor (-) of the
audio line which leads from the amplifier terminal marked -, 0, or COM.
Keep the following indications in mind when making the connections.
• The input voltage selected must correspond with the voltage selected on the amplifier output.
• The sum of the nominal power values of all the speakers connected to the audio line must not exceed
the nominal power of the amplifier.

SELECTING THE 50 V INPUT VOLTAGE (DS 313/WT)

The following operations are used for configuring the DS 313/WT speaker to operate with constant vol-
tage audio lines at 50 V.
1. Using a low power soldering iron for soft soldering, unsolder the RED conductor from the terminal of
the transformer marked 100V.
2. Solder the previously disconnected conductor to the transformer terminal marked 50V (Fig. 7, page
34).

SELECTING THE OUTPUT POWER (DS 313/WT)

The DS 313/WT speaker is equipped with a line transformer that makes it possible to choose the
power to be delivered among the following values: 0.25 W, 0.5 W, 1 W, 2 W, 4 W. The speaker is factory
set for the maximum output power (4 W); to change this value, proceed as follows.
1. Using a low power soldering iron for soft soldering, unsolder the RED conductor from the terminal of
the transformer marked 4W (maximum output power).
2. Making reference to the indications shown on the transformer plate, solder the previously disconnected
conductor to the transformer terminal corresponding to the power desired (Fig. 7, page 34).
6. APPENDIX A – Input cables
Always use cables of adequate cross-section for connecting the speaker. The greater the distance
between the amplifier and the speaker, the larger the cable cross-section must be. For further information,
RCF's GUIDE TO SOUND SYSTEM DESIGN AND INSTALLATION provides the formulas for empirically cal-
culating the cross-section of the conductors to be used in constant voltage distribution lines and in con-
stant impedance distribution lines.
To prevent inductive phenomena from causing hum or disturbance which could jeopardize efficient
audio system operation, the speaker cables should not be run together with electrical energy conductors,
microphone cables, or low level signals (e.g. LINE level).
To facilitate the "in phase" connection of the speaker, use bipolar cables that have markings to distin-
guish the polarity (e.g. insulation of different colours, conductors of different colours, etc).
To minimize the inductive effects (hum) due to coupling with surrounding electrical fields, use cables
with conductors braided together.
