If the machineis to be inoperative for a period longerthan
30 days,the followingprocedures are recommended:
WARNING:Neverstorethe machineor
fuel containerindoors where there is an
openflame, spark or pilotlight suchas
on waterheater,furnace, clothesdryer
or othergas appliance.
IMPORTANT:Fuelleft in the fueltank during warm
weatherdeterioratesand will causeseriousstarting
problems.To preventgumdepositsfromforminginside
the engine'scarburetorand causingpossiblemalfunction
of the engine,the fuel systemmustbe eithercompletely
emptied,or the gasolinemustbe treatedwith a stabilizer
to preventdeterioration,
1. If usinga fuel stabilizer:
• Readthe productmanufacturer's instructionsand
recommendations,
• Add to clean,fresh gasolinethe correctamountof
stabizerfor thecapacityof thefuel system.
° Fill thefuel tank with treatedfueland run enginefor
2-3 minutesto get stabilizedfuelinto thecarburetor.
2. If emptyingthefuel system:
• Do notdrain fuel whenthe engine is hot. Allowthe
engineadequatetime to cool, Drainfuel into an
approvedcontaineroutdoors,away fromopen flame,
• Drainanylarge volumeof fuelfrom the tank by
disconnecting the fuel linefrom the in-line fuelfilter
nearthe engine,
° Reconnectthe fuel lineand run theengine until
it starts to falter,then use thechoketo keepthe
enginerunninguntilall fuel in the carburetorhas
beenexhausted,
° Againdisconnectthe fuel line and drainany
remaininggasolinefrom the system,
,_ WARNING:Drainfuel only into an
approvedcontaineroutdoors,away
from an open flame. Allowengineto
cool. Extinguish cigarettes,cigars,
pipes,and othersourcesof ignition
priorto drainingfuel.
Removethe sparkplug and pourone (1)ounceof
engineoil throughthe sparkplug hole intothe cylinder.
Crankthe engineseveraltimesto distributetheoil.
Replacethe sparkplug,
Cleanand lubricatethe tractoras instructedin Section
6: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWNTRACTORof this
manualbeforestoringfor an extendedperiod.
