Connecting cable or satellite
with a set-top box
Connecting your TV directly to the audio and video
output of your set-top box ensures a more vivid picture
and enhances your viewing enjoyment. See "Choosing
the AV connection to use" on page 9 for connector
and cable information.
Optional equipment and all cables are sold separately.
You can connect a digital TV set-top box (air or cable),
and other AV equipment, by using a connector set from
one of the following inputs:
Digital High-Definition Input: Connect an
■
HDMI cable from the digital, high-definition cable
or satellite set-top box to any of the HDMI
connectors.
Or
Connect a DVI-D cable and DVI-to-HDMI converter
from the digital, high-definition cable or satellite
set-top box with a DVI connector to HDMI 1, and
left-right audio cables to HDMI Audio In L and R.
HDMI supports 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and
1080p input formats. The TV automatically
determines what has been connected. Some set-
top boxes must be set for a specific resolution out.
n
HP Plasma TVs support 1080p input over
HDMI; however, due to the lower native
resolution of the 42-inch TV, the preferred
modes of operation for that TV are either
1080i or 720p.
The HDMI connectors are:
HDMI 1 with HDMI Audio In L and R
