DUST COLLECTION
Turn off and unplug the tool before making any adjustments or removing or
installing attachments or accessories. Be sure the switch is in the "OFF" position.
To use the dust collection system, install the dust container assembly (A and B) Fig. 6 on the dust port
as far as it will go. To use your shop vac with the dust collection system, remove the dust container
(B) by twisting it and pulling it away from the adapter. Attach your shop vac directly to the adapter
port (Fig. 7).
To empty the dust container, remove it and empty it into a trash receptacle.
Never operate these tools unless the dust collector is in place. Sanding dust
may create a breathing hazard.
OPERATION
To operate your sander, grasp it as shown in Fig. 8 and turn it on. Move it in long, sweeping strokes
along the surface, letting it do the work. Pushing down on the tool while sanding actually slows the
removal rate and produces an inferior quality surface. Be sure to check your work often. This sander is
capable of removing material rapidly, especially with coarse paper.
The random orbital action of your sander allows you to sand with the grain or at any angle across it for
most sanding jobs. To produce the best finish possible, start with coarse grit sandpaper and change
gradually to finer and finer paper. Vacuum and wipe the surface with a tack cloth between grit steps.
Your sander is designed to sand into small or confined areas. Its small size and light weight make it
ideal for overhead work.
The rate at which the dust container fills will vary with your workpiece and the coarsness of the
sandpaper. For best results, empty the container frequently. When sanding painted surfaces (see the
following additional precautions for sanding paint), you may find that the sandpaper clogs with paint.
A heat gun will work much better to remove paint before sanding. Follow all the safety instructions in
the heat gun instruction manual.

MAINTENANCE
KEEP TOOL CLEAN
Periodically blow out all air passages with dry compressed air. All plastic parts should be cleaned with a
soft damp cloth. NEVER use solvents to clean plastic parts. They could possibly dissolve or otherwise
damage the material.
Wear ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses while using compressed air.
FAILURE TO START
Should your tool fail to start, check to make sure the prongs on the cord plug are making good contact
in the outlet. Also, check for blown fuses or open circuit breakers in the line.
LUBRICATION
This tool has been lubricated with a suffi cient amount of high grade lubricant for the life of the unit under
normal operating conditions. No further lubrication is necessary.
BRUSH REPLACEMENT
Turn off and unplug the tool before making any adjustments or removing or
installing attachments or accessories. Be sure the switch is in the "OFF" position.
To replace the brushes, remove the three screws (A) Fig. 4 (two of which are shown), located on the
top cap.
Remove the top cap. Observe the brush holders (A) Fig. 9 and the wires leading from the brushes to
the motor field.
Pull the wires from the motor field. Lift and hold out of the way one of the brush springs. Remove the
old brush from the brush holder and discard the brush/wire assembly. Still holding the brush spring
out of the way, insert the new brush, release the spring against the back of the brush, and plug the
wire into the motor field. Repeat the procedure for the second brush.
Replace the top cap and tighten the three screws that hold it in place. (Always replace both
brushes.)

les avertissements ci-après se rapporte à votre outil électrique à alimentation sur secteur (avec fi l) ou
par piles (sans fi l).
Afin de réduire le risque de blessures, l'utilisateur doit lire le mode
d'emploi.
RÈGLES GÉNÉRALES SUR LA SÉCURITÉ
1)
Sécurité du lieu de travail
a)
Tenir la zone de travail propre et bien éclairée. Les lieux encombrés ou sombres sont
propices aux accidents.
b)
Ne pas faire fonctionner d'outils électriques dans un milieu défl agrant, soit en pré-
sence de liquides, de gaz ou de poussières infl ammables. Les outils électriques produi-
sent des étincelles qui peuvent enfl ammer la poussière ou les vapeurs.
c)
Éloigner les enfants et les personnes à proximité pendant l'utilisation d'un outil élec-
trique. Une distraction pourrait vous en faire perdre la maîtrise.
2)
Sécurité en matière d'électricité
a)
Les outils mis à la terre doivent être branchés dans une prise correctement installée
et mise à la terre tel que l'indiquent les codes et règlements en vigueur. Ne jamais re-
tirer la broche de mise à la terre ou modifi er la prise en aucune façon. Ne pas utiliser
de fi che d'adaptation. Consulter un électricien qualifi é s'il y a un doute en ce qui concerne
la mise à la terre de la prise. En cas de défaillance électrique ou de bris de l'outil, la mise à la
terre procure un chemin de faible résistance au courant afi n de réduire les risques de choc
électrique. Cette protection ne s'applique qu'aux outils de classe I (mis à la terre).
b)
Les outils à double isolation sont dotés d'une fi che polarisée (une lame de contact
est plus large que l'autre). Elle ne se branchera que d'une seule façon dans une prise
de courant polarisée. Si la fi che ne s'insère pas totalement dans la prise de courant,
l'inverser. Si elle ne s'insère toujours pas dans la prise, demander à un électricien
compétent d'installer une fi che polarisée. Ne pas remplacer la fi che. La double isola-
tion élimine la nécessité d'utiliser un cordon d'alimentation muni d'une fi che à trois fi ls avec
mise à la terre et un bloc d'alimentation avec mise à la terre. Seuls les outils de classe II (à
double isolation) sont munis d'une telle protection.
c)
Éviter tout contact physique avec des surfaces mises à la terre comme des tuyaux,
des radiateurs, des cuisinières et des réfrigérateurs. Le risque de choc électrique est
plus élevé si votre corps est mis à la terre.
d)
Ne pas exposer les outils électriques à la pluie ou à l'humidité. La pénétration de l'eau
dans un outil électrique augmente le risque de choc électrique.
e)
Ne pas utiliser le cordon de façon abusive. Ne jamais utiliser le cordon pour transporter,
tirer ou débrancher un outil électrique. Tenir le cordon éloigné de la chaleur, de l'huile, des
bords tranchants ou des pièces mobiles. Les cordons endommagés ou enchevêtrés aug-
mentent les risques de choc électrique. Utiliser uniquement une rallonge à 3 fi ls pourvue
d'une fi che de mise à la terre à 3 lames et une prise à 3 fentes correspondant à la fi che.
f)
Pour l'utilisation d'un outil électrique à l'extérieur, se servir d'une rallonge convenant
à une telle utilisation. Si la rallonge sera utilisée à l'extérieur, elle doit être estampillée d'un
W-A ou d'un W suivi de la classifi cation de la rallonge. L'utilisation d'une rallonge conçue
pour l'extérieur réduit les risques de choc électrique. Lorsque qu'une rallonge électrique
est utilisée, s'assurer d'en utiliser une de calibre suffi samment élevé pour assurer le trans-
port du courant nécessaire au fonctionnement de l'appareil. Un cordon de calibre inférieur
causera une chute de tension de ligne et donc une perte de puissance et une surchauffe.
Le tableau suivant indique le calibre approprié à utiliser selon la longueur du cordon et l'in-
tensité nominale de la plaque signalétique. En cas de doute, utiliser le calibre suivant le plus
gros. Plus le numéro de calibre est petit, plus le cordon est lourd.
