6.1. BEFORE USE

6.1.1. Visual inspection before use
•
Check the product (including product labels and marking) and the gas
cylinder for damage. If damaged, remove it from service and identify its status
suitably.
•
Visually check if the product or the medical gas cylinder is contaminated;

if needed, for the regulator, use the cleaning procedure detailed in this
document (if required for the cylinder, refer to the gas cylinder manufacturer
cleaning recommendation).
•
Check if the product service is due or that the total life time of the GCE
product has not been exceeded according to the serial number stamped on
the rear part of the regulator (see section 9). If service or life time has been
exceeded, remove the regulator from service and suitably identify its status.
•
Ensure that the product inlet stem is compatible with the medical cylinder
valve (gas/thread type).
•
Check the presence & the integrity of inlet stem seals / correct size of seal.
The product is intended only for use with the gas specified on the
product. Never use it for other gas.
6.1.2. Connection to medical cylinder valve
•
Ensure that you have the correct medical gas cylinder. Refer to your gas
supplier for medical gas data sheets.
•
Remove protective cap from cylinder valve, direct the cylinder valve away
from personnel or naked flames and briefly open the valve to ensure that
water or foreign matter is ejected from the valve outlet.
•
Before fitting to the cylinder ensure that the valve outlet and the regulator inlet
are clean and free from oil and grease.
•
Fit the regulator into the cylinder valve and secure in position.
•
Cylinders should be located where they will not be contaminated with oil or
grease and securely supported in a vertical position.
Fitting the regulator with too high tightening torque to the cylinder valve
may result in damage.
During fitting to the cylinder valve, do not apply torque/load to any other
parts of the product.
6.1.3. Leakage check before use
•
Open the cylinder valve slowly by turning the hand wheel in anticlockwise
direction approx. 1 to 1.5 turns.
Sudden opening of the cylinder valve could result in a danger of fire or
explosion arising from oxygen pressure shocks. Insufficient opening of
the cylinder valve could reduce actual flow delivered.
•
Visually and by listening check possible leakages on:
•
regulator inlet connection to cylinder valve,
•
pressure indicator to regulator body,
