It is important to respect the position of the probe z
specified in the XRD.740
place it as close as possible to the injector. The probe
should be placed on the no 1 cylinder injector pipe on a
straight section which is not distorted or scratched, and is
free from grease or paint.
Operation
A1) Connections
Connect the lamp to the power supply by placing the
large red clip of cable h on the «+» battery terminal
and the black clip on the «-» terminal.
Place the probe z round the N° 1 injector pipe. Connect
the fork terminal of cable j on the spring connector of
probe z and connect the black clip on this wire to the
engine ground.
A2) To test engine speed
idle, fast idle and maximum speeds. Start the engine,
switch on the stroboscopic function lamp p by pressing
key t and read the engine speed on display u.
If necessary adjust the speeds as explained in the diesel
manual XRD.740 or the manufacturer's manual.
A3) To test the initial ignition timing : Find the
window for the TDC mark on the clutch housing. If the
vehicle does not have a window, use one of the methods
described in «B» or «C»
