4. INITIAL START-UP

4.1. Steps to follow

After following the indications given in point 3, you can proceed to carry out the initial start-up.
1. Check that the laterals were not damaged during transport and handling. In the same way, check all other
external components of the filters to ensure their good condition (valves, gaskets, plugs, fixing elements, etc.).
NOTE: In order to facilitate the loading of the filtration media inside the filter, the bobbin filters are
delivered with the diffuser unglued, while the laminated filters have the pipeline of the diffuser unglued,
fixed only by mechanical means.
2. Fill the filters and the installation with water.
3. Proceed to perform a hydraulic test. By this way, you will verify that there are not any leaks and that the
installation works properly, avoiding by this way the generation of air bags or bubbles in the installation,
as well as other anomalies.
NOTE: all valve maneuver affecting the filter must be carried out with the pumps stopped.
4. Ensure one air inlet in each filter (by opening the lid, the purge valve or having installed a tri-functional air
relief). In case there is not any air inlet, the filters risk to collapse.
5. Empty the filter halfway.
6. Fill the half empty filters with the selected filtration media, ensuring the process is done evenly on the
surface of the filter. If different granulometries are going to be used, the highest particle size medium must
be loaded until having the laterals covered (approximately 10 cm).
NOTE: This operation must be performed with great care to avoid damaging the inner components of
the filter.
7. Clean with care the lid and the inner part of the top manhole so there is not any dirt or rests of filtration
media that may affect to the water tightness of the gasket.
8. (Manometer panel) Cut the two small plugs located at the back side of the manometer gauge panel of the
battery of valves. These plugs have the aim to avoid the loss of glycerin of the manometers during the
transport.
9. Completely fill the filters with water and start the operation of the installation, purging the filters from air
because it might difficult the correct filtration of water. In case of having an automatic tri-functional air relief,
this purge will be automatically done.
NOTE: The maximum working pressure and temperature, indicated both in the label of the filter and
in the technical datasheets, will never be exceeded.
In the filters of the HCFF FIBERPOOL SERIES and HCF BRASIL SERIES, the threaded knob on the lid will
never be tightened when the filter is under pressure. If you do so, it could lead to incorrect working
conditions for the lid. When the filter is under pressure, the threaded knob usually gets loosen and
separated from the bridge in normal operation (Fig. 4 and 4a).
