Connect the AC power cord to
the rear of the power supply
!
unit and directly to an AC
outlet. Where the AC mains
plug can be reversed in the
wall socket please make sure that the plug is
inserted with the correct polarity For best results,
do not use extension cords or multiple-outlet
"power strips". Also, do not disable the ground
pin as this can increase the risk of electric shock.
Analog inputs
The CP-65 Remote Control Preamplifier is
equipped with 3 single-ended and 3 balanced
inputs, which accept any standard RCA (Single-
ended) or XLR (Balanced) connector. There is also
a single-ended and balanced Tape input.
LINE LEVEL INPUTS
These are all high level inputs (RCA) sharing
exactly the same characteristics, and may be
interchanged if so desired.
BALANCED INPUTS
The Balanced inputs on your CP-65 Remote
Control Preamplifier are true differential high
level inputs The balanced XLR connector on your
CP-65 Remote Control Preamplifier is configured
as follows:
PIN 1: Ground
PIN 2: Positive (Non-inverted) Signal, "hot"
PIN 3: Negative (Inverted) Signal
All Classé products share the same balanced
(XLR) pin out. Other manufacturers may use a
different balanced (XLR) pin out configuration.
Please contact the manufacturer if you wish to
maintain absolute phase throughout your system
when connecting Classé products with
equipment from other manufacturers. Please
refer to Fig. 2.
Analog outputs
The CP-65 Remote Control Preamplifier has both
balanced (XLR) and single-ended (RCA) outputs.
Both OUTPUT 1 and OUTPUT 2 are available as
single-end (RCA) or balanced (XLR). Both types of
outputs have been carefully optimized to give the
best possible performance. However, the most
realistic and natural sonic quality is obtained by
connecting the balanced outputs to the balanced
input on your amplifier.
Both the balanced and single-ended outputs can
be used simultaneously, or independently. Please
note that the balanced (XLR) output level is 6db
higher than the single-ended (RCA) output and
when selecting an OUTPUT both types are
selected and available.
Infrared (IR) input and output
The CP-65 Remote Control Preamplifier is
equipped with 1/8" mini-plug connectors that
allow the unit to directly receive and transmit
remote IR commands. These connectors can be
used with equipment that receives IR commands
and converts them for transmission on copper
wire. This is especially useful for situations where
the CP-65 Remote Control Preamplifier is outside
of the line-of-sight of your listening location.
Contact your Classé dealer for information on
installing and using remote IR repeating
equipment.
CONTROLS AND OPERATION
This section describes all of the controls, front
panel display, and operation of the CP-65
Remote Control Preamplifier.
Turning on AC power
The CP-65 is turned on by means of a power
switch located on the back of the power supply
unit. Do not turn the AC power on until all
connections have been made.
Standby mode
Once power has been applied to the preamplifier
it will automatically enter Standby mode. In this
mode, the front panel display and power supplies
are turned off, saving power. However, the low-
level analog power supplies remain on for
maximum sonic performance.
When the CP-65 is in Standby mode, the
STANDBY LED on the main unit and the power
indicator on the power supply will remain
illuminated.
The CP-65 will return to regular operation when
the STANDBY button on the front panel or
remote control is pressed.
Front panel controls
Please refer to Fig. 3 for CP-65 front panel
controls.
STANDBY
Pressing STANDBY will cause the CP-65 to
POWER ON into OPERATIONl Mode when the
unit is in the STANDBY state. Pressing STANDBY
again will return the unit to STANDBY Mode.
INPUT SELECTOR
The CP-65 Remote Control Preamplifier allows
user to select inputs via two buttons; (<) and (>).
Pressing the LEFT INPUT (<) selects the input left
of the current input and pressing the RIGHT
INPUT (>) selects the input to the right of the
current input. Both INPUT buttons employ a wrap
function that allows the user to easily toggle
through the inputs in either direction.
TAPE MONITOR
Pressing TAPE once will cause the CP-65 to select
the single-end (RCA) TAPE 1 INPUT. Pressing TAPE
again will switch to the balanced (XLR) TAPE 2
INPUT. The TAPE MONITOR loop is exited by
pressing TAPE a third time and final time.
VOLUME CONTROL
The VOLUME CONTROL varies the output of both
channels simultaneously. When the CP-65
Remote Control Preamplifier is MUTED, turning
the VOLUME CONTROL up will turn off mute and
increase the volume. To reduce volume simply
turn down the VOLUME CONTROL.
MUTE
Pressing MUTE will turn the outputs on and off.

Control Preamplifier front panel display and a

The remote control
The remote control provides access to all
functions available on the front panel. In
addition, several functions can only be accessed
from the remote control. For instructions on how
to use keys that are duplicated on the main-unit
top panel, see the instructions in the previous
section. For other functions, please read on.
Remote Controlled Functions
DISPLAY
Pressing DISPLAY (DISP) will cause the CP-65
front panel display to cycle through the 3
brightness levels. The DISPLAY can only be
turned OFF automatically after it has been
programmed in the setup. See DISPLAY Setup
page 25. When the DISPLAY is OFF any activity
from the front panel or remote control will return
the DISPLAY to the previous brightness level for
the preprogrammed time and then off again.
AMPLIFIER
Pressing and holding AMPLIFIER (AMP) will place
the CP-65 Remote Control in Amplifier Mode.
Once in this mode you can select and turn on
five separate amplifiers or press VOLUME UP to
turn on all the amplifiers connected in the daisy
chain sequencially.
AMP + LINE1 = AMP1
AMP + LINE2 = AMP2
AMP + LINE3 = AMP3
AMP + BAL1 = AMP4
AMP + BAL2 = AMP5
AMP + VOL ^ = AMP1 to AMP5
LINE1-3
Pressing LINE1, LINE2, or LINE3 will cause the
CP-65 to directly access the appropriate single-
ended (RCA) input.
BALANCED1-3
Pressing BAL1, BAL2, or BAL3 will cause the
CP-65 to directly access the appropriate balanced
(XLR) input.
