Defender Models (All)
Remove the lens. See "Defender
Lens" section under "Donning".
Remove the mounting screws and
hardware and pull the Impact Cap out
using the suspension straps.
Impact Cap Inspection - Replace if
any of these conditions exist:
• Halo effect (ring of discolored
foam)
• Cracked, deformed or brittle foam
• Evidence of impact
• Cracks in plastic tube
• Plastic tube out-of-round
• Rubber tube is no longer supple
and elastic
• Defender Suspension Tie
• Impact Cap liner/ring has holes or
blistering
• Missing velcro for earlaps (except
880)
Note: The following impact cap can
only be installed on the helmet models
listed:

MSA Cairns Leather helmets can be
sent back to the factory for the follow-
ing repairs:
• Repaint
• Replace/Add Earlap
• Replace/Add Impact Cap – Only
on helmets made from 1985 to
present
• Replace/Add Front Holder
• Replace/Add Suspension System
• Replace/Add Ratchet – Only on hel-
mets made from 1985 to present
• Replace/Add D-Ring
• Replace/Add Faceshield/Hardware
• Replace/Add Chinstrap
STORAGE
• NEVER store equipment in or on
the helmet that is not explicitly
authorized by MSA. Storage of
gloves, wedges, lights and other
equipment could dramatically
change the helmet's protective
capacity.
