WARNINGS REGARDING DAILY USE
OF THE AUTOMATION
5.1 – "Obstacle detection" function
To-Max is equipped with a safety system named "Obstacle detection" which
is activated when shutter travel, either Up or Down is blocked inadvertently by
an obstacle (object, person etc.) or excessive friction (formation of ice, expan-
sion of materials etc.). In these situations, the control unit stops the manoeuvre
immediately and activates a brief inversion of movement.
The system is based on constant control of the torque supplied by the motor
(power) during a manoeuvre. This control enables prompt detection of sudden
increase in power (in the Up manoeuvre) or decrease in power (in the Down
manoeuvre) when shutter movement is obstructed.
The parameters of the threshold that establish the system sensitivity are dynam-
ic and are automatically updated in the control unit memory each time the shut-
ter touches an obstacle or other element that prevents normal movement.
Therefore in daily use of the automation, perform the following manoeuvres
immediately after activation of the "Obstacle detection" function:
CAUTION! – Observance of this warning enables the "Obstacle detection"
function to memorise only parameters generated by "real" objects and to
ignore small errors or occasional friction. This enables efficient self-cali-
bration and limits intervention to effectively hazardous situations.
• If interruption of the manoeuvre is due to the presence of a solid and
identifiable object: Remove the obstacle and activate another manoeuvre in
the opposite direction to that previous command.
• If interruption of the manoeuvre is not caused by an apparent object:
Repeat the same manoeuvre as the previous command.
5.2 – "Obstacle detection" function
In general the tubular motors in the "Max" range, though guaranteeing a maxi-
mum continuous use interval of 4 minutes, are designed for residential use and
therefore intended for a discontinuous use. Therefore, in the event of overheat-
ing (for example due to continuous and prolonged activation) a thermal cut-out
protection trips to shut off power supply and restore operating conditions only
when the temperature returns to normal values.
5.3 – "Auto-update of limit positions" function
CAUTION! – This function is enabled only if the limit switch has been pro-
grammed in "Automatic mode" or "Semi-automatic mode".
During daily use of the automation, the shutter can be heard on impact with the
limit switch at the end of a manoeuvre. In these cases, impact is due to the
"Auto-update of limit positions" function that repeats measurement of the
parameters of the two limit positions and updates the previously memorised
values.
The aim of this function is to compensate over time for extensions or shrinkage
of the structure due to wear and temperature variations, thus enabling the Up
and Down movements to be completed with constant precision at the respec-
tive limit positions.
