tive threaded hole is provided at the
bottom of the clamp, into which the
support rod of the bar can be set after
unscrewing it.
3. Move the carriages of the machine to the
start-up position, i. e. the position at the
start of the welding process in which they
have to be for the proper positioning of
the components in relation to each other.
Use the handwheel for the carriages to
close both of them in on each other until
they are 1.5 - 2 mm (
the heating socket or spigot on either side.
4. Clamp the — possibly chamfered, depending on
the applicable welding standard, and in any case
cleaned — pipe into the jaws of the pipe-side carriage.
Turn its handwheel to where the jaws loosely hold the
pipe. Adjust it flush with the fitting clamped into the
jaws on the fitting side of the machine. Be sure that
the mark indicating the fusion depth is visible from the
side where the operator is. Then turn the handwheel
for the clamps on the pipe side on to where the pipe
is clamped fast between their jaws.
5. Remove the heating element from in-between the
pipe and the fitting if it was inserted for positioning
them, and close both components sitting in the clamps
in on each other in order to check one final time and,
if needed, to adjust their proper alignment.
6. Using the carriage-moving handwheel, move both
carriages apart from each other.

Verify that the fitting is tightly clamped, also using
the securing adjustable bar. It has to be clamped
so it will not move, neither during clamping nor

during welding.
For longer pipes, the length of pipe protruding
over the clamp has to be supported or manually
held with no risk of movement.
Measuring it at four points on the heating spigot, verify
that the heating element has the nominal temperature
set at its selector (refer to the bullet points in Sect. 4).
Move pipe and fitting away from each other and position
the heating element between them.
The heating element is set on a bridge ending in a
catch. This catch hooks onto the heating element
seat in the basic machine chassis, which is fastened
