OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
8. Detecting AC Live Wires in Cords,
Switches and Outlets
You can use the non-contact live-
wire detector function of the tool to
determine if a cord, power outlet or
switch is live.

WARNING: NEVER INSERT ANY
PART OF THE TOOL, INCLUDING BIT,
INTO AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET FOR ANY
REASON. NEVER TOUCH ANY PORTION
OF THE TOOL TO ANY POTENTIALLY
LIVE CIRCUIT.
The Non-contact Live-Wire Detector
senses a complete circuit when it is within 1 inch of the AC source.

WARNING: Test the unit on a known AC current before use.

WARNING: The non-contact live-wire detector is designed to help locate live wires in
switches, outlets and cords operating at household voltage (100-230V AC). Recommended
optimal operating distance is 1 inch. Never use it for detecting other types of currents.
Failure to obey this warning could cause serious personal injury and damage the tool.
a. Press the live-wire detection button. The red detection indicator will blink once
and the buzzer will beep once to indicate that the live-wire detection function is
activated.
b. Aim the side of the non-contact live-wire detector towards a possible live source. Do
not touch the tool to the outlet, switch or cord.
c. Keep the live-wire detection button depressed. Move the tool adjacent to the
anticipated AC source (cord, switch or outlet). When an AC source is located, the red
LED indicator will illuminate and the buzzer will sound.
d. After detecting the AC source, turn off the power at the breaker panel, and use the
non-contact live-wire detector to confirm that there is no power at the outlet, cord or
fixture before initiating any repairs.
NOTICE: Static charge may interfere with detection on both sides of the wire, resulting
in limited accuracy.
