2.2 Safety in your working environment

• Ensure that your place of work is always well-
aired and well-lit so as to avoid potential accidents.
In order to minimise dust levels, attach a compat-
ible industrial vacuum cleaner to the sander.
• Should there be risk of an explosion in your
place of work (e.g. due to dust, flammable liquids
or gases), it is essential that you do not operate
the scouring machine. Should sparks be produced,
the consequences could be fatal.
• Ensure that there are no other people in your
working environment (children in particular) who
could distract you while scouring.
• If you do not intend to attach an industrial
vacuum cleaner to the scouring machine, you
should make sure your place of work is properly
aired so as to reduce dust levels.

2.3 Operating safety tips

• This scouring machine should be used only
by skilled professionals who have carefully read
and understood the operating and maintenance
instructions contained in this manual, who are fa-
miliar with such machines and who are not under
the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication.
• In so far as it is possible, ensure that you use
an industrial vacuum cleaner with a dust bag for
collecting fine dust particles, in addition to the
use of an approved breathing mask that provides
protection against dust and vapours. Extended in-
halation of dust generated from building work can
be harmful for the lungs. Wear protective clothing,
protective glasses and non-slip working shoes to
minimise the risk of injury.
• In order to avoid accidents, before you attach
the machine to a power source, ensure that there
is no possibility of the scouring machine being
turned on unintentionally. Furthermore, all other
tools and operating controls should be removed
from the operating area of the scouring machine.
• In order to avoid causing damage to the ma-
chine, any nails, screws or other metal objects
must either be fully buried or completely removed
from the area that is to be treated before renova-
tion work can begin.
• Always hold the machine with both hands lest
you lose control of the tool and cause damage.
Always hold the machine by its insulated handles.
• Keep your hands, hair, feet and loose items of
clothing away from the scouring machine.
4 EN
Ensure that the power cable is always outside the
surface area that is being treated.
• Ensure that there are no faulty switches on the
tool, that all moving parts are functioning correctly
and that no parts have broken or fallen off of the
machine. These factors could impede the opera-
tion of the scouring machine.
• The sanding of lead paints or coatings can
release poisonous gases and should be either car-
ried out by a professional with appropriate safety
equipment or avoided entirely. The treatment of
surfaces with exposed steel reinforcement must
be avoided at all costs.
• Once you have switched off the machine, wait
until the scouring wheel has come to a complete
stop. Only then should you set the machine aside.
Always store the scouring machine in a dry room.
During breaks in work and for the purposes of
repairs, the machine should always be switched
off and disconnected from the power supply.
• Immediately switch off the machine if it begins
to make unusual noises or vibrations. Have
malfunctioning machines repaired only by quali-
fied professionals who use the correct, original
replacement parts.
• Only use accessories that have been recom-
mended and approved by the manufacturer.

3. Operating the machine

3.1 Starting off

You must take the following measures before
operating the machine for the first time or after it
has been transported:
• Attach a vacuum cleaner to the scouring
machine, then check to see if a suitable fine dust
collection bag has already been placed inside the
vacuum cleaner.
• Check that the power cable on the scouring
machine, as well as that of any other device (e.g.
an industrial vacuum cleaner), is in good order and
free of damage. Make sure that no power cables
or hoses can impede your work space.
• Check that the scouring head and scouring
wheels are correctly fastened. Using the included
socket wrench, check that the three screws in the
middle section of the scouring head are tight.
3.2 Operating the machine
3.2.1 Connecting an industrial vacuum cleaner
Insert a fine dust collection bag into the vacuum
cleaner according to the instructions provided with
the vacuum cleaner.
Please note that the use of an unsuitable vacuum
cleaner can increase the concentration of dust
particles in your working environment to such an
extent that you may suffer damage to your lungs.
Attach the suction hose of the vacuum cleaner to
the scouring machine. You are recommended to
have the power cable and the suction hose bound
together and running parallel to each other (e.g.
with a cable tie) to avoid them becoming tangled.

3.2.2 Operating the scouring machine

Before connecting the scouring machine to a plug
socket, ensure that the power switch is set to
"OFF". Only switch on the scouring machine once
all safety precautions have been taken and the
vacuum cleaner and scouring machine are fit for
operation. If you are using a vacuum cleaner with
an automatic start function, you need only switch
on the scouring machine.
Starting up:
If necessary, first switch on the vacuum cleaner.
Hold the scouring machine with your left hand on
the hand grip and your right hand on the main
handle. Left-handed users should assume the
same handling pattern but in reverse. Set the po-
wer switch to "ON". Be prepared for the scouring
head to start rotating. By activating the switch lock
located on the side of the machine, you can set the
machine to rotate continuously, without the use of
the ON/OFF switch.
Shutting down:
Set the power switch to "OFF". When the switch
lock is active, the ON/OFF switch must be pressed
once quickly to deactivate the switch lock and turn
off the machine. The scouring head will continue
to rotate for a few moments. Make sure that the
scouring head has completely stopped rotating
before you set the machine aside.
Setting the rotation speed:
The rotation speed is fully variable and can be
adjusted as required using the rotation speed
controller. This is also possible while the machine
is in operation. A higher rotation speed allows for
a higher rate of surface removal, while a lower
speed provides greater control of the surface
treatment.

3.2.3 Adjusting the operating depth

The scouring machine includes a height-adjustable
protective hood. Before adjusting the height, turn
off the machine and disconnect it from the power
supply. Unfasten the three knurled nuts and pull
the brush ring downwards until you are able to
twist the depth stop. Set your desired operating
depth and then push the brush ring upwards. The
knurled nuts must now be refastened. Before con-
tinuing your work, check that the protective hood
is attached correctly.
