Visuallyinspectthe
pilotflameand
burnerperiodically
duringuse.The
pilotflameshould

(notyellow)andwillextendbeyondthethermocouple.The
flamewillsurroundthethermocouplejustbelowthetip,
seeFigure5.
Aslightyellowflamemayoccurwherethepilotflame
andmainburnerflamemeet.Theburnershouldbebright
orange(withaslightbluecoloraroundtheborder,ared-
orangehazethatisvisibleontheceramictileisacceptable)
andwithoutanoticeableflame.Ablueflamethatrollsout
atthetopoftheceramictileindicatesanaccumulationof
dust,lintorspiderwebsinsidethecasingassemblyand
mainburnerassembly.Ifthepilotisyellowortheburner
hasanoticeableflame,cleaningmayberequired.Usethe
followingproceduretoinspectthecasingassemblyand
mainburnerassembly.
Itisnecessarytoperiodicallychecktheburnerorificeand
burnerventuritubetomakesuretheyareclearofinsects/
nestsorspiderwebsthatmayaccumulateovertime.A
cloggedtubecanleadtoafire.
1 Allowheatertothoroughlycoolbeforeperformingany
maintenance.
2 Removedisposable1lb.cylinderfromheaterorturn
OFFgassupplyatremotecylindervalve,anddisconnect
hosefromheater.
3 Remove(4)fourscrewsthatsecuretherearcoverto
theHeater.
4 Pivotcoveroutwardfrombottom.Releasefrom2top
clips.Setaside.
5 Remove(4)fourburnerretainingscrewsandfuelline
fromburnerassembly.Removeburnerassemblyfrom
backofhousing.
6 Inspectinteriorofcasingassemblyforaccumulation
ofdust,lintorspiderwebs.Ifnecessary,cleaninterior
ofcasingassemblywithavacuumcleanerorapplyair
pressure.Donotdamageanycomponentswithincasing
assemblywhenyouarecleaning.
7 Inspectandcleanmainburnerorifice(threadedinto
orificeholder).Orificeholderisattachedtotheburner
assemblyventuriwith(2)twoscrews.
8 Inspectandcleanpilot(mountedtobracket)byusinga
Mr.Heater|PortablePropaneHeater
vacuumorapplyairpressurethroughtheholesinthe
pilotindicatedbythearrowsinFigure5.
WARNING:Neveruseneedles,wires,orsimilar
cylindricalobjectstocleanthepilottoavoiddamaging
thecalibratedorificethatcontrolsthegasflow.
9 Applyairpressure(max.30psi.)intoceramictileof
burnerassemblyandtheventuritube(ref.item#16)to
removedust,lintorspiderwebs.
10Reassemblemainburnerorificeholderontotheburner
assembly.
11 Reinstallburnerassemblyintotheheaterhousing
12 Reinstallfuellineandcheckforleaks.
13 Installheaterbackcover.
TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION:
If Spark electrode does not produce spark.
CHECK
•Sparkelectrodebroken–replaceODS(OxygenDepletion
Sensor).
•Igniterwiremaynotbeattachedtosparkelectrode,
groundwiremaynotbeattachedtoframe-attach.
•Igniterwiredamaged–replace.
•
Piezoigniterdefective–replacegasvalveass'y.
If Spark electrode produces spark but pilot does not light.
CHECK
•Nogastoheater–installdisposablecylinderorconnect
hoseandturnonvalveatremotecylinder.
•"PILOT"positionnotproperlyaligned–turngascontrol
knobto"PILOT"positionanddepress.
•Pilotisblockedfromspiderwebordirt–cleanpilot,see
MAINTENANCE.
If Pilot flame does not stay lit when knob is released.
CHECK
•Controlknobin"PILOT"positionnotcompletely
depressedorheldinlongenoughtopurgeairfromlines.
•Pilotflamenotsurroundingthermocouple–cleanpilot,
seeMAINTENANCE.
•PilotAssemblydefective–replace.
•
Tipswitchwiresdisconnected–connect.
If Main burner does not ignite.
CHECK
•Mainburnerorificeisblocked–cleanburner,see
MAINTENANCE.
If Heater keeps shutting "OFF" during normal operation.
CHECK
•Pilotisblocked–cleanpilot,seeMAINTENANCE.
•Provideminimumfreshairopeningof9squareinches
(example3"x3"opening).
•Tipoverswitchactivatedfrombumpingheater.Re-light
•Regulatordefective-Replaceregulator.
•Internalcontamination-Replacecontrolvalveand
regulator.
