3.1 Carabiners (17D-1, 17D-2 & 18D-2)
Miller carabiners are designed for use as connectors within a fall arrest system, ladder climbing
system, positioning system, suspension system, or retrieval system.

Warnings and Limitations

• For use by ONE person only. Maximum capacity is 400 lbs. (181.4 kg), including tools. —
DO NOT EXCEED THIS WEIGHT.
• The structure that this product is attached to must be capable of supporting a 5,000 lb.
(22.2 kN) static load or provide a 2:1 safety factor in the direction of pull.
• Carabiner must be installed in such a way that the opening action cannot be duplicated
by contact made with an object it is connected into or has the potential to come in con-
tact with.
• Make sure carabiner is positioned so that its keeper/gate is never load bearing.
• Always visually check that the carabiner keeper/gate is completely closed and locked
when in use.
Installation
1. Twist carabiner gate as shown (see Fig. 1a).
2. Open gate inward and make connection within the personal fall protection system as required (see
Fig. 1b).
3. Release the gate making sure that it closes completely and locks.

Removal: Simply repeat the operation instructions to open the carabiner gate and remove it
from the system.
Captive Eye Pin Installation
To create a captive eye within the carabiner for attachment of
connecting devices, drive the pin through both the pre-drilled
holes on the carabiner until flush as shown (see Fig. 1c).
