Assembly and operation
Complete every step (1. – 6.).
1. Location
The sera KOI Professional 24000 Pond Filter must be placed on one lev-
el with the pond surface in a fl at, horizontal position, allowing the water to
run back directly from the fi lter into the pond without water pushing back
or counter pressure. Only a hose with max. 2 m (6.6 ft.) length and the
same diameter as the outlet may be connected to the fi lter outlet. An arti-
fi cial brook is suitable for directing the purifi ed water back into the pond in
case you wish to place the fi lter in some distance to the pond.
The position of the sera KOI Professional 24000 Pond Filter should be
chosen in a way that prevents knocking over the fi lter by pets, playing chil-
dren or the like.
The sera KOI Professional 24000 Pond Filter is not suitable for indoor
use.
2. Inserting the sera split sieve and the sera fi ne mesh fi lter sponges
with overfl ow pipe
(The split sieve and the fi ne mesh fi lter sponges with overfl ow are already
inserted in the sera KOI Professional 24000 Pond Filter by default.)
Insert the small sera fi ne mesh fi lter sponge into the oval sponge chamber
in a way that the overfl ow opening of the sera fi ne mesh fi lter sponge is lo-
cated on the large opening of the sponge support area. The big sera fi ne
mesh fi lter sponge is also inserted in a way that the overfl ow openings of
the sera fi ne mesh fi lter sponges align with each other. The sera overfl ow
pipe is now pushed through both sponges and the big opening of the
sponge support area so the sera overfl ow pipe stands on the Matala mat.
The sera overfl ow pipe ensures that the overfl ow openings in the sponges
keep a stable diameter and cannot clog.
Insert the sera split sieve with the arrow directing upwards and with at-
tached seal ring into the sera KOI Professional 24000 Pond Filter. The
rounded edges of the sera split sieve are facing downwards.

3. Connection to pump
Push the mounting adapter (3.1.1) through the opening in the fi lter wall. The
rubber O-ring seal must be attached on the inside, directly on the fi lter wall
(3.1.2). Fasten the adapter by screwing on the ring nut from the outside.
Push the variable hose connector through the union nut, and place the
O-ring seal inside the union nut. Firmly screw the hose connector onto the
mounting adapter (3.1.3).
Check the diameter of your current hoses to the smallest diameter of the
hose connector. Smaller sections of the connector can be trimmed-back
with an (iron) saw to allow better fl ow with larger diameter hoses (3.2). Be-
fore installing the hose connectors, always grease both O-rings with the sil-
icon oil included with the kit. Only then you may push them into the open-
ing up to the stop and fasten the screw cap (3.2).
4. Connecting the waste water removal valve
If the waste water removal valve is not installed aside the split sieve, con-
nect it with the O-rings seal, as shown in fi g. 4.
You can screw the waste water removal valve clockwise into the counter
piece that you hold on the inside to do so. Hand-tight fastening is suffi cient
in this case. Fill the waste water chamber below the split sieve with water
and check whether the waste water removal valve is water proof.
5. Connecting a sera pond UV-C System 55 W
You will fi nd a detailed description about how to install the sera pond
UV-C System 55 W to the sera KOI Professional 24000 Pond Filter in the
information for use of the sera pond UV-C System 55 W.
6. Test run when connecting one or two UV-C systems
Carry out a test run after having fi nished items 1 – 5.
Prior to using the sera pond UV-C System 55 W, the fully installed unit
must be operated under normal operation conditions as expected later on
for at least 24 hours WITHOUT CONNECTING THE UV-C SYSTEM TO THE
POWER/MAINS SUPPLY, i.e. in simple fl ow operation connected to a
pump, as to discover possible leaks in advance.
The water fl ow and pressure (pumping height) should match that of normal
operation. Please refer to the instructions for use of the UV-C unit for fur-
ther information.
Maintenance and cleaning
All components of the fi lter should be cleaned regularly as to ensure opti-
mum water purifi cation performance.
Cleaning the sera KOI Professional 24000 Pond Filter
a) Cleaning the split sieve (2.2.1) and the waste collection chamber
(2.2.3)
Disconnect all electrical components from the mains/power supply (UV-C
system, pump, etc.) in and around the pond. Take off the cover of the fi lter
casing (aside the sera pond UV-C System 55 W).
Place an empty bucket within reach. Slowly open the waste water remov-
al valve (2.2.2) and allow the waste water to run out. Wash out remaining
dirt with a hose or a watering can. Firmly attached dirt is best removed by
hand with waterproof gloves. Now close the waste water removal valve
again. You can also use a hose nozzle with outside thread to fi rmly con-
nect a hose which, for example, leads onto a fl ower bed. Therefore, clean-
ing the waste collection chamber is quickly done.
Now take out the split sieve. Wash the split sieve on both sides using a
hose. Particles stuck in the splits can carefully be removed with a scrub-
bing brush. Do not use a wire brush or hard items to clean the split sieve.
The splits must not be damaged as to prevent the optimal purifi cation ef-
fect of the sieve from being affected.
Put the split sieve back into its holder after cleansing, the mark located at
the top. The split sieve lifter is simply placed on the top right or left. Put the
fi lter chamber cover back on.
