5. Tilt breast flange slightly downward so milk
flows into bottle.
Watch your milk flow as you pump. Use it
as your guide.
• Use a few minutes of fast, light squeezes to trigger milk let-down.
• When milk flows, use a squeeze, hold and release motion to pump milk or slow, strong
but comfortable squeezes.
• When milk flow slows, use faster squeezes to help trigger another let-down.
• Repeat above steps as milk flow changes.
• If discomfort is felt during pumping, insert a finger between breast and breast flange to
break suction and remove breast flange from breast. Discontinue pumping and contact
a healthcare provider.

Pumping Tips
Pumping Time
Talk to your healthcare provider about how long you should pump. In most cases,
10 to 15 minutes per breast is suggested.
Checking Breast Flange Fit
The standard-size (25.0mm) breast flange fits some mothers well. If pumping causes discomfort,
even on a low suction setting, you may need a different breast flange or insert size. A good breast
flange fit may make pumping more comfortable and may express more milk.
To check your breast flange fit, watch your nipple during pumping. Use the pictures below
as a guide.

Troubleshooting the One-Hand Manual Breast Pump
If milk is not flowing fast enough, adjust squeeze, hold, release frequency.
If pumping causes discomfort:
• Use gentler handle squeezes.
• Check breast flange fit. A larger/smaller breast flange
or insert may be needed.
If suction is low:
• Check that white valve is fully pushed on to the breast flange.
• Check white valve for tears or stretches. Replace if needed.
• Remove piston seal, stretch out on flat surface, and replace on piston.
To dual pump:
Both tubes should
be attached to
tubing adapter.
Too Large
During pumping, more areola
is drawn into the breast flange
with your nipple. Your areola
may rub against the side of
the breast flange tunnel.
