Troubleshooting

Issue
My computer does not
recognize Slides Forever.
I get a Windows message
that reads Device not
recognized.
Nothing happens when I
insert the included CD
into my computer.
A warning appears that
that Device has not
passed Microsoft logo
testing.
Slides Forever is working
but some of my slides or
negatives look
overexposed.
There is a black border
around the edge of the
image.
Possible Cause
Slides Forever not plugged
into a high-speed USB
port (USB 2.0).
This may be a problem
with your CD drive. Your
computer's settings may
also be preventing the CD
from automatically starting
as it should.
Computers running
Windows often show this
warning for third-party
applications. This is
normal.
Automatic exposure times
can vary based on your
computer's settings.
The slide or negative might
not be properly inserted in
the feeder or holder. Also,
the feeder or holder might
not be fully inserted into
Slides Forever.
Resolution
Make sure a USB 2.0 port is installed on
your computer and connect Slides
Forever to it (even if you have a USB 2.0
port installed, not all of your computer's
USB ports may be USB 2.0-compatible).
If you do not have a USB 2.0 port, you
can upgrade your USB ports using
hardware available at most electronic
stores.
Check to see if your CD drive is
operating properly (e.g., insert a different
CD into the drive and see if you can
access it). If possible, insert the included
CD into the CD drive on a different
computer to see if it works there.
If the CD is shown on your computer's list
of connected devices and drives, open
the CD to view its contents, and then
double-click the Install application file.
Select Continue anyway to continue
using the application.
Each time you load a new slide or
negative, wait for the image in the
software window to stop adjusting its
exposure (which will stabilize
automatically), and then click Snapshot.
Try using the software to adjust the
brightness or exposure level. See
Operation > Scanning, Editing &
Saving Your Pictures
do this.
Check your slides or negatives to see if
they may have been overexposed when
originally developed. Several photo
adjusting software applications are
available to "clean up" your newly
digitized picture.
Remove the feeder or holder from Slides
Forever and make sure the slide or
negative is placed correctly. Gently
reinsert it into Slides Forever so that it
"clicks" into place. See
