Wiring limitations
When planning the DMX link, the following considerations must be taken into ac-
count in addition to the information provided in corresponding DMX device instruction
sheets:
•
For outdoor installations, only use data cables designed for exterior use.
•
Typical DMX cable properties:
• low capacitance
• impedance: 85 to 150 ohms
• electrically shielded
• at least 1 twisted pair of conductors
• minimum wire size: 0.25 mm² (AWG 24) for runs up to 300 meters
• CAT 5 network cables designed for direct burial can be used, but it is recom-
mended to use conduits
•
DMX devices must be "daisy-chained" (DMX cable must be connected in one single
chain of DMX devices).
•
Max. 32 DMX devices per chain. See the separate instruction sheets of the DMX
devices for exceptions.
•
An optically isolated amplifier or splitter must be used to:
• amplify the DMX signal in environments with a high degree of electromagnetic
interfaces
• extend a link beyond 300 meters
• extend a link to include another 32 DMX devices maximum
• branch the link into further single chains, each containing max. 32 DMX devices
