Raising

Safety instructions

Inform and train the personnel about the safety and risks when using the
patient hoist and sling. This training shall be done by competent persons.
The responsible person in your organization must decide if one or more care
providers are necessary.
Apply the brakes of the wheelchair, brancard, etc.
Plan the raising of the patient prior to the actual raising to ensure safe and
correct raising.
Before moving the patient to another place be sure that the patient is safely
and comfortably in the sling.
Don't use damaged loops or slings.
Check that the loops are attached correctly to the buttons of the patient hoist.
Check this before the patient is raised.
Never leave the patient without supervision.
Check the maximum working weight of the patient hoist. The smallest working
weight between patient hoist and sling is determining.
2.2.1 Raising and lowering instructions
The patient can be raised with the patient hoist by following the instructions below:
1. If the patient is raising from a wheelchair, apply the brakes of the wheelchair
and remove the arm supports.
2. Spread out the sling and hold the marking label to you.
3. Place the sling behind the back of the patient.

4. Position the armpit cushions of the sling under the armpits of the patient.

5. Mount the waist belt with the velcro strip around the waist of the patient. Do
not put on too tight or loose.
6. Position the patient lift as close to the chair in the desired position.
7. Position the legs of the patient hoist in the desired position around the chair.
8. Position the footplate of the patient hoist as close to chair. Place the feet of
the patient on the footplate.
9. Position the lower legs parallel with the leg support. Adjust the height and
depth of the leg support so the leg support will sit comfortable just under the
knees.
10. Use the loops to mount the straps to the buttons of the patient hoist.

11. Raise the patient by pushing on the manual control.
12. Now the patient can be moved to the desired place with the patient lift.
