4.5. T hreading the upper thread
Please read the following instructions carefully as an incorrect sequence or
thread guiding can lead to broken threads, missed stitches and gathered fab-
ric.
A diagram of how to guide the thread is provided on the front flap; you can
also use this drawing as a guideline.
Before threading the needle (26), raise the needle to its highest position by
turning the hand wheel (21) and raise the presser foot lever (17) to its high-
est position.
Place a cotton reel on one of the cotton reel holders (15), making sure the
thread is routed forward over the back of the cotton reel.
Hold the cotton reel with your right hand.
NOTICE!
The illustration is only for clarification; the front flap must not be opened.
Pass the thread through the upper thread guide (9).
Then pass the thread between the tension discs of the upper thread ten-
sion regulator (3) as illustrated.
TIP
An upper thread tension of 3 is ideal for most applications.
