Maintenance (continued)
10-Hour maintenance
(more frequently in dusty conditions)
1. Remove the air cleaner cover by loos-
ening the cover screw(s) and lifting.
2. Remove the air cleaner element.
3. Clean or replace as necessary.
■ Wash element thoroughly in soap
and water.
■ Let element dry before reinstall-
ing the element.
4. Replace air cleaner cover.
CAUTION!
Never operate the unit if the air cleaner
assembly is damaged or missing!
10/15-Hour maintenance
Remove and clean or replace the
spark plug.
■
Adjust the spark plug electrode gap to
0.024 - 0.028 inch (0.6 - 0.7 mm). If the
spark plug must be replaced, use only
an NGK BPMR6A or equivalent resistor
type spark plug of the correct heat range.
CAUTION!
Before removing the spark plug, clean
the area around the plug to prevent
dirt and debris from getting into the
engine's internal parts.
NOTE:
The NGK BPMR6A also meets the
requirements for electro magnetic compli-
ance (EMC).
Gearcase lubrication
■
Lubricate the cutter assembly gear-
box by pumping one or two strokes of
lithium-base grease into the grease fit-
tings using a lever-type grease gun.
CAUTION!
Over lubricating can cause the gear-
case to operate sluggishly and can
cause grease to leak out.
Unscrew
Fasteners
Loosen air cleaner cover screws
Remove and inspect spark plug
Lubricate cutter assembly and gearcase
0.024 – 0.028 inch
(0.6 – 0.7 mm)
Clean the spark plug
and check the gap at
the electrode.
