only when the operating and safety infor-
mation are read completely and the instruc-
tions contained therein are strictly followed.

J Before each use, check the unit and battery. If dam-
age is detected, do not use the unit. Have repairs per-
formed only by a qualified technician.
J Do not use the unit when the housing is damaged.
The missing protective insulation can enable interior
parts to be touched and lead to a dangerous electric
shock.
J Do not cover the venting slots. The battery charger
can overheat, become damaged and cause a fire.

Battery charging
The mains voltage and the data on the type plate
must agree.
Pay attention that the charge contacts 5 are protected
against debris and moisture, and that they are not
obstructed through foreign objects. Do not operate the
charger at locations where it is extremely hot or cold. It
operates best at normal room temperature.
For safety reasons, the battery of a new power tool is
delivered only with a low charge.
J Connect the charger 2 to the mains supply and insert
the battery 1.
J Charge the battery until the green LED 4 no longer
flashes, but continuously lights up green.
A NiCd battery does not reach its full capacity until after
several charging-/discharging cycles.
NOTE: The 12 V and 14.4 V battery can not be com-
pletely slid onto the charger. However, they are prop-
erly seated when the edge of the battery reaches the line
mark on the charger. It can take up to 5 seconds until
the charging of the battery is indicated.
J ... 887: The battery gets hot in continuous use. Allow
the battery to cool down for approx. 45 minutes be-
fore recharging.
J ... 888: Put the hot battery on the charger. The charg-
er is cooling down the battery an starts charging, if
the temperature is below 50 °C.
The charging time for a partially discharged battery is
approx. 15 minutes and for an empty battery approx.
30 minutes. During charging, the battery warms up.
This is normal and not a malfunction.
J When the battery is fully charged, pull the plug of the
charger out of the socket outlet and remove the battery.
Do not store the battery in the unplugged charger.
