Notes on temperature measurement

It is important to know the normal temperature of each individual in a healthy state. This is the
f
only way to diagnose fever accurately. Record the values twice a day (early morning and late
afternoon). Take the average of the two temperatures to calculate the normal oral equivalent
temperature. Always measure the temperature in the same place, as the temperature readings can
vary in different parts of the forehead.
A child's normal temperature can be up to 37.7°C (99.9°F) at the top or up to 36.11°C (97.0°F) at
f
the bottom. Please note that this device shows 0.5°C (0.9°F) less than a digital rectal
thermometer.
External factors can influence ear temperatures, including the following circumstances:
f
- when the person has been lying on one ear or the other
- if the person had covered their ears
- if the person has been exposed to very hot or very cold temperatures
- if the person has recently swum or bathed
In these cases, remove the person from the situation and wait 20 minutes before taking the
temperature.
Use the untreated ear if prescription ear drops or other ear medications were placed in the ear
canal.
If you hold the thermometer in your hand for too long before taking a measurement, the device
f
may heat up. This means that the measurement could be wrong.
Patients and the thermometer should remain in an inpatient room for at least 30 minutes.
f
Before placing the measuring head on the forehead, remove dirt, hair or sweat from the forehead
f
area. After cleaning, wait 10 minutes before taking the measurement.
Clean the measuring head carefully with an alcohol swab and wait 5 minutes before taking a
f
measurement on another patient. Wiping the forehead with a warm or cool cloth may affect your
measurement. It is recommended that you wait 10 minutes before taking a measurement.
In the following situations it is recommended to measure 3-5 temperatures at the same place and
f
take the highest temperature as the measured value:
- Newborn babies in the first 100 days.
- Children under three years of age with a weakened immune system, for whom the presence
or absence of fever is critical.
- When the user learns to use the thermometer for the first time, until he/she has become
familiar with the device and gets consistent readings.

8. Care and cleaning

Use an alcohol swab or cotton swab moistened with 70% alcohol to
clean the thermometer housing and measuring head. After the alcohol
has completely dried out, you can take a new measurement.
Make sure that no liquid gets inside the thermometer. Never use abrasive
detergents, thinners or benzene for cleaning and never immerse the
instrument in water or other cleaning liquids. Take care not to scratch
the surface of the LCD panel.
