What is fever?

Our normal body temperature is between 36 °C and
37,5 °C. Fluctuations are quite normal, depending on
time of day and the body's condition, for example in
the female menstruation cycle. However, when body
temperature rises above 38 °C, the phenomenon is
known as fever.
Fever often occurs in the case of infections, and is a sign
that the body's immune system is working overtime.
This perfectly normal reaction to foreign bodies, germs
and microorganisms should be checked at regular
intervals. If the fever should exceed 39° C and not fall
again within 1 to 2 days, you should definitely contact
your doctor.
A fever is often associated with fatigue, pains in the
limbs, shivering and chills. The course of an illness can
be best monitored by taking a temperature reading 2 to
3 times a day at 4 to 6 hour intervals.
Always take the temperature at the same place and on
the same part of the body. If you have to take the
temperature several days in succession, always do it at
approximately the same time of day so that the results
are comparable.
