Expansion vessel
An expansion vessel must be fitted to the system close to the pump station. A protection vessel should be fitted depending on the size of
the array and its distance from the pump station. An example is shown below. The Expansion Vessel should be sized correctly for the
system and selected in accordance with DIN 4757 and EN 12977. The Protection Vessel should be selected in accordance with VDI 6002.

It is recommended that the following checks are carried out on an annual basis:
Check the collector installation for any signs of damage or any build up of debris.
Check for any corrosion to the collector or the mounting system and repair if necessary.
Check the tightness of the fasteners. Where fasteners cannot be readily accessed, the overall security of the collector installation may
indicate whether problems exist.
Check the fittings and pipework for any signs of fluid leakage or damage, including the condition of the pipe insulation, and repair if
necessary. Check inside the building for any evidence of leaks.
Examine the roof tiles around the collector installation for any damage or deterioration, and repair if necessary.
Check for any foliage growth that may cause shading of the collectors.
Where applicable, check the condition of any ballast used to secure the system.
In areas where there may be a build up of dirt on the collector, only non-abrasive cleaning materials and methods should be used to
clean the collectors and mounting system components.
The pH value should be checked using a suitable meter.
The antifreeze percentage of the heat transfer fluid must be checked every 2 years. The antifreeze can be checked using a
refractometer. The reading should be approximately -21 deg C (40% concentration).
