COMPONENTS (Fig. 1, 2)
WARNING: Never modify the power tool or any part of it. Damage or personal injury could
result.
A. Fixed blade
B. Moving blade
C. Curl deflector
INTENDED USE
The DW892 14-gauge shear is designed for professional cutting at various work sites (i.e.,
construction sites). DO NOT use under wet conditions or in presence of flammable liquids or
gases.
These 14-gauge shears are professional power tools. DO NOT let children come into contact
with the tool. Supervision is required when inexperienced operators use this tool.
ADJUSTMENTS
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury, turn unit off and disconnect it from power
source before installing and removing accessories, before adjusting or when making
repairs. An accidental start-up can cause injury.
Setting the Blades (Fig. 2, 3)
VERTICAL CLEARANCE
Position the moving blade at the top of its stroke. Adjust the vertical clearance so that the "V"
shaped opening appears as in Figure 2.
HORIZONTAL CLEARANCE
The upper movable blade (B) must be centered to correspond with the position of the lower
fixed blade (A) as shown in Figure 2 by releasing the clamp screw with the key provided.
The lower blade must be positioned relative to the upper blade ac cording to the thickness of the
material to be cut. The shear is sup plied with a gauge to facilitate this adjustment.
1. Loos en the clamp screw (I) and withdraw the lower blade away from the upper blade.
2. Loosening set screw (H).
3. Insert the appropriate size feeler gauge (J) between the two blades and slowly tighten
screw (H) until both blades are in contact with the gauge.
4. Lock the lower blade by tight ening screw (I) and tighten the hex nut (G) to lock set screw (H).
OPERATION (FIG. 1, 4, 5)
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury, turn unit off and disconnect it from power
source before installing and removing accessories, before adjusting or when making
repairs. An accidental start-up can cause injury.
Switches (Fig. 1)
To start tool, depress the paddle switch (D). To turn the tool off, release the paddle. The paddle
switch can be locked on by engaging the lock button (E) located near the rear of the tool, while
holding the paddle depressed. Always be sure that the tool is not locked on before plugging in. To
turn the tool off when it is locked on, squeeze and release the paddle once.
Hold the shear positioned so the main body is parallel to the work (K) and the cutters are at right
angle to the work (Fig. 4). Engage the cutters with the edge of the material to be cut, and apply
only sufficient forward pressure to start cutting. The relative position of the cutters to the work
is critical, and it may be necessary to tilt the tool forward or backward until the best cutting rate
is achieved. Too much tilt will stop the cut. Blades must be sharpened in accordance with the
angles in Figure 5, using the template (L) provided.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury, turn unit off and disconnect it from power
source before installing and removing accessories, before adjusting or when making
repairs. An accidental start-up can cause injury.
Cleaning
WARNING: Blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with clean, dry air at least once a week.
To minimize the risk of eye injury, always wear ANSI Z87.1 approved eye protection when
performing this.

of the tool. These chemicals may weaken the plastic materials used in these parts. Use a cloth
dampened only with water and mild soap. Never let any liquid get inside the tool; never immerse
any part of the tool into a liquid.
