Instructions for Use
Bard-Parker® Protected Blade System
Intended use
Intended for tissue separation and other procedures that
require a sharp surgical blade to puncture or cut.
Precautions
•
This device is single use only. Reuse of this device
may lead to patient cross contamination and/or
device failure.
•
Ruler shown on scalpel handle should be used as an
indicator only, and not for accurate measurements.
•
During use avoid twisting, bending or putting
excessive force or strain on the blade in order to help
prevent breakage.
•
Device is intended for limited contact duration, less
than or equal to 24 hours.
Assemble
1. Grasp protective shield with thumb and index finger
with blade tip pointing up.
2. Insert handle cleat and attach protected blade up to
the indicator line.
CAUTION: DO NOT place hand in front of shield opening.
Use
1. Depress top button on protective shield.
2. Retract shield to rear locked position to fully uncover
blade.
Cover
1. Depress top button on protective shield.
2. Advance shield to forward locked position at lock
indicator line.

Dispose
One-handed technique with blade covered:
1. Place thumb on side of handle behind cartridge.
2. Push forward to unload protected blade.
3. Dispose of protected blade in an approved sharps
container in accordance with your facility's sharp
disposal procedures.
